Disputes are bound to happen from time to time and it is something that is a part of anyone’s life.
In the case of Marathon runner Soh Rui Yong, he had been in several disputes with Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) in the past.
However, he has recently attempted to make amends with the council.
The Southeast Asian gold medalist has apologised again to the SNOC through his Facebook and conveyed his hopes to represent the nation once again in international competitions.
Removed Posts on Facebook & Apologised
According to Soh’s Facebook post, he has removed all posts from April 2019 onwards which have placed SNOC in a bad light.
Soh also mentioned that he hopes to put the past conflict he had with SNOC behind so that he can focus on his running and contribute to Singapore’s sports scene.
Stating that he accepts that SNOC has its reason for rejecting his nomination for the SEA games, Soh goes on to apologise for any statements that he has said that have downplayed SNOC.
In one of the closing statements of his apology, Soh mentions that he hopes to race for Singapore once again and fly the nation’s flag high, which essentially means that he hopes to win a medal again for Singapore.

Disputes in the Past
Soh and SNOC had several disputes in the past.
One main example would be in the 2019 and 2022 SEA Games, in which SNOC disallowed of Soh’s participation due to his non-standard attitude and behaviour.
In 2019, Soh not being able to take part in the SEA games led to a public dispute, which involved threats of legal action.
However, in 2022, a few days after being excluded from the SEA Games, Soh issued his first apology to SNOC through social media, showing his change of attitude for the better.
This apology, however, did not help him get short-listed for the Asian Games.
In reply to Soh’s apology earlier this year, SNOC said that Soh has yet to show any demonstration of a change in his attitude and behaviour, which would allow him to meet the non-performance-related standards required.
