Angelina Jolie Claims Brad Pitt Was So Abusive, He Had Assaulted His Own Child

After their divorce in 2019, news of celebrity couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have once again surfaced.

This time, it’s about their lawsuit over a French winery that the couple bought during their time together.

However, that’s not all that they have been fighting over.

In particular, Ms Jolie, 47, has emerged with claims of how Mr Pitt, 58, was abusive.

Not just towards her, but towards their children as well.

And here’s all you need to know about what happened.

Pitt Attacked Jolie and Children After Getting Drunk

According to Ms Jolie, who has since filed court papers over this matter, Mr Pitt once attacked her and their children on one of their private flights in 2016 after getting drunk.

She also claimed that this incident was what made her decide to get divorced from Mr Pitt.

The couple have six children together, three of whom are adopted.

During their flight from France to the United States on 14 September 2016, he allegedly attacked two of them and grabbed Ms Jolie by the head as well.

Apart from that, he also poured alcohol on his family members and verbally abused them based on Ms Jolie’s claims.

And although this incident has been brought up in previous court papers and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at that time, no charges were pressed.

However, new information about this incident has since surfaced, with more details being added by Ms Jolie’s legal team when they submitted more information on Tuesday (4 October).

This issue was filed as a cross-complaint after she sold her shares of Chateau Miraval SA, the home and vineyard in southern France that the couple bought together.

More Details About Pitt’s Alleged Abuse

Based on Ms Jolie’s cross-complaint, Mr Pitt was both physically and emotionally abusive towards the rest of his family while they were on their private flight.

He started off by raising his voice at Ms Jolie and said that she was “too deferential to the children”, but got violent and “pulled her into the bathroom” of the plane soon after.

The filing also mentioned, “Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall.

“Pitt then punched the ceiling of the plane numerous times, prompting Jolie to leave the bathroom.”

Attacked Child After He Tried to Intervene

Apart from that, Ms Jolie also claimed that Mr Pitt “lunged at his own child” after he tried to “verbally intervene” in order to stop his parents from fighting.

Seeing that her child was about to get hurt, Ms Jolie apparently “grabbed [Mr Pitt] from behind to stop him”.

However, “Pitt threw himself backwards into the airplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow” in order to “get Jolie off his back”.

All the Children Ended Up Being Involved

“The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face,” the filing added.

The couple’s children were aged eight to 15 at that point in time.

Afterwards, Ms Jolie’s legal team mentioned that both Ms Jolie and her children “sat still and silent under blankets” for the rest of their flight.

Additionally, “Pitt periodically emerged from the back of the plane to yell and swear at them. At one point, he poured beer on Jolie; at another, he poured beer and red wine on the children” according to the filing.

Impact of Attack on Ms Jolie

Ms Jolie also included photos of a bruise she sustained on her elbow as well as a “rug-burn type injury” that she got due to Mr Pitt’s actions.

Apart from that, Ms Jolie’s legal team also expressed how she “has gone to great lengths to try to shield their children from reliving the pain Pitt inflicted on the family that day” since then.

Pitt Denies Allegations

Since then, Mr Pitt has denied the allegations of him being abusive towards his family.

With regards to his alcoholism, the award-winning actor has been open about how he joined Alcoholics Anonymous, a support group for alcoholics after he and Ms Jolie split.

BBC also reported that a source “close to the actor” shared that Ms Jolie’s claims were false.

According to the source, Ms Jolie constantly changes her version of the story and adds “completely untrue” information every time she does so.

The unnamed source added that she chooses to do so whenever she realises that she is unable to get what she wants.

Court Proceedings Thus Far

Since the star-studded duo’s divorce, Ms Jolie and Mr Pitt have been embroiled in a series of court proceedings to settle their financial disputes and other issues.

In particular, although Ms Jolie was awarded sole custody of her six children back when the couple’s divorce was finalised, a judge revised this decision and awarded both Ms Jolie and Mr Pitt joint custody of them.
