(One of these days, I promise)

Speaking of durians, have any of you guys “kena tok” by a durian seller before? For the uninitiated, “Kena Tok” means to be ripoff.

According to a post by Businessinsider, the Malaysian Government will soon be giving individual QR codes to Musang King to ensure their authenticity.

I am serious. Durians are getting their very own version of NRIC.

Just like how the durian business is a serious affair.

The Malaysian Government is thinking of implementing RFID technology on the durians to differentiate the different variety of durians.

“Accordingly, every Musang King durian, as well as other varieties, will be given QR Codes in the future, and the public can scan the code using their mobile phones.” said Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, the Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry.

In case you’re wondering, this is not a first. RFID technology has also been used in the past to identify birds’ nests from Malaysia as well.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek also said that out of the 66000 hectares of land allotted for durian trees in Malaysia, 23700 hectares have been used for the Musang King alone.

Now you see why durians are serious business, eh?

Anyway, I really can’t imagine people holding up their phones just to scan the QR codes of durians. It’ll definitely be a sight to behold.
