S’porean Medical Experts Say That COVID-19 is More Dangerous to Health Than COVID-19 Vaccines

I’m sure most of us know that vaccines are not completely safe, without any risks or issues. However, we all know that it is better to get vaccinated than to be an anti-vaxxer and be a roadblock to Singapore’s recovery.

Turns out, even if the vaccines were produced in record time during the pandemic, there is a very low risk to your health. In Singapore, only 0.004% of the almost 3.7 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna jabs administered resulted in an adverse effect.

If that still doesn’t convince you, here’s more advice from experts: three independent bodies of medical experts in Singapore have reiterated that the risk of COVID-19 vaccines are much smaller than the risk of the virus itself, and recommended that people still receive the vaccines in the interest of public health.

According to The Straits Times, the groups are the Chapter of Cardiologists at the College of Physicians, the Academy of Medicine, and the Singapore Cardiac Society.

In their joint statement on Monday (14 Jun), they expressed that the vaccination “helps keep the majority of individuals from getting seriously ill from COVID-19 and facilitates herd immunity in the community.”

“We continue to recommend that eligible members of the public go for COVID-19 vaccination as the risk of complications from COVID-19 infection continues to significantly exceed the risk from COVID-19 vaccines.”

6 Cases Of Myocarditis

Six people, including four men under the age of 30, had suffered from heart inflammation—or myocarditis—after receiving their second jab of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) had already noted that most cases of myocarditis had been reported a few days after receiving the second dose.

Therefore, they advised that adolescents, as well as younger men, should try to abstain from intense physical activity for at least a week after their second dose.

Apparently, current data suggest that there may be a small risk of myocarditis and pericarditis—which is another inflammatory condition affecting the heart—after receiving a second dose of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, particularly in males under 30 years old.

In addition, Israel and the USA have observed an increased risk in the cases of the two heart conditions.

However, the authorities and experts have already highlighted that such cases are extremely rare and may not be directly linked to the mRNA vaccines themselves.

The three medical bodies are aware of the situation and will monitor it closely, providing any updates if necessary. HSA and the Ministry of Health (MOH) have also assured that they will do the same.
