Wah, we can finally be proud of our red book that’s our travel document. Yes, the Singapore passport is the most powerful passport in the world now.
How did this happen? With some help from Paraguay.
Paraguay just dropped the need for Singaporeans to get visa requirements for entering their country.

With this move, Singapore actually catapulted above Germany and is the highest in the passport index from Arton Capital, a global financial advisory firm.
If we were to look back at the historical factors, most of the passports on the top ten list across the world are from European countries.
Germany has been on the top for 2 years already leh.
However, since early this year, Singapore’s been sharing the no.1 space with Germany (tie lah). How we got even higher than Germany, you want to know?
Singapore now has a visa-free score of a record high for 159 countries, based on the most recent rankings on 25 Oct. Germany is now one count down at 158 countries with visa-free requirements for them.
The MD for Arton Capital in Singapore, Philippe May shared that this is the very first time than an Asian country carries the “most powerful passport in the world”.
He added that this is a “testament of Singapore’s inclusive diplomatic relations and effective foreign policy”.
There are also other Asian passports in the top 20 list, and these include the likes of our neighbour Malaysia, Japan as well as South Korea.

US’s passport has dropped in ranks too, with a score of 154 to date. Lingering close to its ranks are Canada, Ireland and once again, Malaysia. US’s shift is partly due to the Central African Republic and Turkey striking off their visa-free status to US passport users.
The founder and president of Arton Capital, Mr Armand Arton added that the “visa-free global mobility is now an important factor this day in today’s world”. People tend to, after all, invest huge sums of money to secure a second passport to get better security and open more doors of opportunities for their families.
All that we can say is that we’re proud that we are number one. You have no idea the amount of pride bursting in our hearts reading these news and sharing them with you.
Singapore’s flag is flying high, and we hope that it continues that way for some time.
The world needs to know what we’re made of. Even if it is in the form of a red book – it’s got the stamp of approval from 159 countries!

Since this new ranking, it’s announced that the Singapore passport is revamping with tighter security. Pretty sure it’s just a coincidence, but hey: new ranking, new design.
Just remember not to take Instagram shots with your boarding pass.
