Do you know what’s not very smart? It’s trying to steal something in broad daylight, and on a weekend too.
Firstly, it’s bright outside so the staff could very easily identify you. Secondly, if it’s a weekend there are probably tons of people swarming around waiting to catch you.
Thirdly, CCTV cameras are gonna film you in the act and then you’ll be the next social media influenza.
This guy obviously didn’t think things through:
Man Steals Gold Jewellery Worth $3,000 By Pretending To Be A Customer Then Running Away
According to The Straits Times, a thief made off with a gold necklace worth around $3,000 from a jeweller in Bukit Merah on Saturday afternoon.
The alleged thief was described as an Indian man who is in his 30s. According to Shin Min Daily News, the time of the incident, he was wearing a grey shirt and jeans.
What Happened
The owner of the jewellery shop that was robbed, Tiong Sun Goldsmith & Jewellers, said that the thief had pretended to be a customer.
He tried on a gold necklace with a gold pendant before he ran away.
A salesperson chased after him.
However, it was raining and visibility was poor so he lost track of him after only 50 metres nearby a coffee shop.
The good news is that the thief did not try to threaten the salesperson, and no weapons were used in the robbery.
Hence, no one was injured. The incident had occurred at around 3.40pm.
Police investigations are currently ongoing.

Not The First Time The Shop Had Been Robbed
Unfortunately, the owner revealed that it was not the first time that the shop has been the victim of a robbery.
Five years ago, a similar incident occurred in which a thief had also pretended to be a customer before he ran away with a gold necklace worth a few thousand dollars.
Luckily, he was arrested a few days later.
Don’t these people know that they will get caught?
Those who are convicted of theft may be liable for a fine and/or imprisonment of up to 3 years.
Other Robberies At Jewellers
Other similar incidents involving theft that have occurred include a robbery at a jewellery shop in Ang Mo Kio, called Hock Cheong Jade and Jewellery.
The incident occurred back on 14 August 2019.
This time, the thief made no pretences and strolled into the shop wearing a black helmet, blue jacket, black pants and a black bag.
As you can see he was there to make it known that he was going to steal.
He then jumped over the counter, grabbed a ton of jewellery which amounted to a whopping S$100,000 and ran away.
Kinda makes a $3000 gold necklace seem inconsequential, doesn’t it?
Three men were involved in the robbery and they were aged between 27 and 36.
They were promptly arrested a mere 36 hours after the incident after they were caught on CCTV from multiple angles.
CCTVs Rulez
See, I told you CCTVs will bite you in the ass.
All of them have since been charged with robbery with common intention.
For this specific case, if convicted, they could be jailed for up to 10 years and receive at least six strokes of the cane.
Just one question, don’t these people know that they’ll eventually get caught? Let’s see how long the police takes to find the alleged thief this time.
