Remember the controversial rap video featuring Preetipls and her brother?
It seems like a lifetime ago, but it was only in 2019 that the siblings were given a 24-month conditional warning for the video, which allegedly contained offensive content.
Those given conditional warnings must remain crime-free for the duration of the warning, but it seems one of them slipped up.

Preetipls’ Brother to be Charged for 2019 Rap Video After Breaching Conditional Warning
Subhas Nair, the 29-year-old brother of online personality Preetipls, has allegedly breached his conditional warning on three different occasions since 2020.
The first incident occurred on 25 July last year, when he commented on a video of Chinese Christians who had made hateful comments against another community. He said that if Malay Muslims had made the same comments, they would be treated differently by the authorities.
Then, when he commented on a 15 Oct post last year about the murder of an Indian man in the 2019 Orchard Towers incident, Mr Nair allegedly claimed that one of the Chinese men involved received lenient treatment from the authorities because of his race.
This prompted the police to launch investigations against him.
While these investigations were going on, Mr Nair depicted a cartoon drawing during an indoor performance that allegedly promoted feelings of ill will between Chinese and Indians. The incident occurred on 11 March this year.
The 29-year-old is expected to be charged in court next Monday for allegedly promoting feelings of ill will between different religious and ethnic groups.
Since he breached his conditional warning, he will also be charged for the rap video he made back in 2019, as those who breach their conditional warning will be charged for both their original and new offences.
This is why Mr Nair will be handed four counts instead of three.

What Happened in 2019?
For those who can’t remember anything that happened before the pandemic, here’s a brief recap of the controversy involving Nair and Preetipls.
At the time, NETS had released an advertisement about the electronic payment campaign E-Pay featuring four different characters to represent the three different races. Unfortunately, they chose one Chinese actor to portray all three races, and the advertisement was slammed for its stereotypical depiction of the races and its use of brownface.
Preetipls and her brother later responded with a racial rap video denouncing the treatment of minorities in Singapore.
Some viewed Preetipls’ rap video as an attack on Chinese people because of its strong language. Others pointed out that the 27-year-old clarified at the end of the video that not all Chinese people are racist and that the video is targeted only at those that are.
Nonetheless, a police report was made and the video was later taken down after the Media Development Agency issued a notice.

If found guilty of his charges, Mr Nair could face up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
