We can all agree that working in retail requires patience.
But working last weekend at Swatch requires a whole other level of patience because it was definitely not a calm situation at all.
With the Omega x Swatch collaboration making one guy even dare the police to shoot him, watch-lovers all around the world were surely on edge while trying to get their hands on the new launch.
But at the forefront of it all, dealing with all these angsty customers were none other than the retail staff at Swatch.
Amidst the whole hoo-ha, one manager demonstrated some god-level patience all for a total of eight minutes.
Manager Addresses Angry Crowd
In a video that was originally posted on TikTok, a manager at Swatch can be seen coming out to address the angry mob of customers who had apparently been queueing for hours.
The manager, dressed in white, very calmly told the line of customers that there were not enough watches to “satisfy” everyone in the queue.
Additionally, he made sure to emphasise that “the watches are not limited”, meaning they would simply be restocked on another day.
However, his statement was immediately met with a load of grumbling.
“Give us a solution,” one guy yelled.
Well, you could simply come back another day and skip the queue.
But that just wouldn’t satisfy the kiasu Singaporeans right?
Yep.
The manager apologised once again and stated that they just did not have enough stocks for everyone.
Spent Hours in the Queue for Nothing
A lady, who appeared to be slightly more composed, reasoned that Swatch should have only let a certain number of people join the queue, knowing that they had limited stocks for the day.
If Swatch wanted to do a service recovery, they should take down the names and contact numbers of the people in the queue to notify them when the watches are restocked, she added.

However, the manager clarified that all along, Swatch has had a no-reservations policy.
To which, he was of course met with more protests.
A man, dressed in blue, said that they were ushered into the queue and had been waiting for hours, only to just be told that they could not purchase the MoonSwatch because it was out of stock.
Leaves and Says “I’m Done”
Throughout the whole saga, the manager could be seen nodding his head in response to the customers’ complaints. The police can also be seen standing at the side, listening to the crowd air their frustrations.
Towards the end, the manager explained that the huge crowd “came as a shock” to them.
And… the customers got angry again.
Finally reaching the limit of his patience, the manager turned around and walked off, saying, “I’m done.”
His departure is actually met with applause by the crowd, no doubt a sarcastic one.
Props to him for lasting so long, because he is surely not getting paid enough for this.
If anything, the Swatch saga has taught us not to be so kiasu lah. Don’t give the staff such a hard time also, they are just doing their job.
Maybe if people had checked Swatch’s announcement on Facebook, they would have realised there was no need to rush and queue because the MoonSwatch is not even a limited edition watch.
