130 Tampines HDB Blocks to be Painted With ‘Cool Paint’ That’ll Reduce Temperature by 2°C

With rising temperatures, the government has been coming up with new and innovative solutions to beat the heat.

Case in point: painting HDBs with “cool paint”.

Cooler Tampines HDBs

And by cooler, we mean literally cooler.

An announcement on the Tampines Town Council’s Facebook page revealed that about 130 HDB blocks in the area will undergo a cool paint pilot project.

This means that the blocks will be repainted using paint that will cool the environment around it, which could reduce the ambient temperature of Tampines by 2°C.

This project is expected to be completed by 2024, and is part of Tampines’ plan to be Singapore’s model Eco-Town by 2025.

Work has already begun, with the Town Council posting pictures of workers onsite.

Tampines as an Eco-Town

Other than the cool paint, the town is getting enhancements that will make it more eco-friendly and sustainable.

For instance, Tampines Park has a Black Soldier Fly Facility, Tilapia Fish Farm, as well as a Vertical High-Tech Farm. These three form a circular ecosystem that can help to strengthen food resilience in the community.

They also have community-based projects like the Reverse Vending Machines, which gives residents FairPrice discount coupons in exchange for their recycled bottles and cans.
