Many of us, at some point in our life, would have definitely burnt the midnight oil— be it to Netflix or complete our never-ending workload.
I’ve definitely burnt midnight oil quite often back in university due to my lazy project mates the tight school schedule I had, leaving me with extremely dark under-eye circles that never seem to go away.
More Than Just Dark Under Eye Circle
A lady from Thailand, with the Facebook username ToqTaeq Kerdmee shared how she had developed severe rashes all over her body due to an imbalanced immune system.
If you are wondering what was the cause of the imbalanced immune system? The constant lack of sleep for 3 months.
ToqTaeq Kerdmee said that she has been working night shifts, which was believed to have messed up her sleeping pattern, resulting in insomnia, and leaving her with little rest before she wakes up for work again.
That went on for 3 months before she started noticing rashes on her body.
Doctor Said It Was Bug Bite
After realizing that the rashes are starting to form on her body, ToqTaeq Kerdmee went to the doctor, who told her that it was a bug bite and prescribed her an anti-inflammatory medicine.
However, as her condition worsened and she started developing a fever the next morning, she decided to visit a second doctor, who told her that it was an allergy reaction from the fabric softener she was using.
At this point in time, I’m convinced that we shouldn’t trust doctors all the time.
While waiting for an appointment with a dermatologist, which was arranged by the second doctor, ToqTaeq Kerdmee decided to visit a third doctor, who told her that it was a skin allergy too.
Admitted To The Hospital
After getting home, ToqTaeq Kerdmee recalled that it was the most haunting night of her life as she felt like there were millions of ants biting her body.
Her family later brought her to the hospital where her blood was disinfected and she was confined to a separate room.
Luckily, it wasn’t too late for treatment. Her fever soon went away, and red patches started forming on her body.
The doctors then told her that it was due to the lack of sleep that has affected her immune system resulting in the development of rashes.
What Caused The Rashes?
According to HuffPost, sleep deprivation weakens our immune system, which in other words, our body would have difficulty repairing itself and fighting against infections, causing rashes or other skin-related diseases to happen.
Adding on to that, lack of sleep also results in droopy eyelids and mouth, thinner hair and weight gain.
What is the moral of the story?
Remember to have sufficient sleep. Health is wealth, and we should never neglect our own well-being. Unless you would like to have a droopy mouth.
Another moral of the story?
Trust your own body, maybe not so much on the doctors. After all, you know your body better than anyone else.
