Trends like salted egg yolk, frozen yogurt or Spanish youtiao (churros) came and went in Singapore, but Thai food is one that came and stayed. Whether it’s the spiciness or sourness that keeps us Singaporeans going for more, or the fact that Thailand is one of Singaporeans’ number one vacation destinations, anything tom yam is sure to attract enough crowd.
Now, how does it sound if there’s a Thai food buffet…freshly cooked for you? I bet you’re salivating now.
Located in East Coast Park within the Big Splash premises, The Seafood International Market & Restaurant famous for its variety of seafood and hence has become many seafood lovers’ favourite.
Unknown to some, its recent addition to include Thai food buffet has made everyone in the office, me included, excited—so much so that I had to try it despite the rain last Saturday. At $29.80++ for weekday lunch and $32.90++ for weekend lunch, it’s just too wasted that there isn’t any buffet for dinner.
Just like its previous buffet, the buffet isn’t exactly the mainstream one that we’re all accustomed to—instead of grabbing as much food as you can from an area, you will have to order your food and have them served to you. This means you’ll need to order early, as cooking will take some time.
The twist in its Thai food buffet is the addition of seafood, even atas and expensive ones like abalones or scallops. These exclusive seafoods are, however, limited to one serving per person, and there’re ten to choose from (you can have them all…if you’re up to it).
As for the Thai food, you can have as many servings as you want. But I’m sure you’ll not be gong gong enough to order three plates of pineapple fried rice in a buffet, eh? Your stomach can only take in this much.
Despite having to cook the food, the food was served relatively fast to us. The servers made it a point to clear every empty plate on our table, and even took the effort to remind us to order as soon as possible as they needed to cook the dishes. I’ll have to give them six out of five stars for their service—one of the servers even recommended the better dishes, so that we won’t “waste our calories” on those not-that-good ones!
As a seafood restaurant with a reputable name, its seafood is no doubt beyond our expectations. Everything is fresh without that “fishy” taste, and comes piping hot.
To be honest, unless you’ve not eaten for three days, you won’t be able to try out all dishes. There’re a total of thirty-eight dishes, so if I were to suggest, I would think that the priority should be the seafood-based items, especially the abalone, scallop and prawns. Call me cheapskate, but hey, who takes unlimited servings of fried rice in a buffet?
