If you’ve been on social media for a significant period of time, you’d know that whatever pictures users post online, it’s usually for one purpose: showing off.
Some flaunt their wealth, some show off their bodies, while others take every opportunity they can to remind us that they’re not single.
Nothing draws as many likes and reactions as someone showing off their wealth, though, presumably because they’re living the life many wish they had.
Comments on such posts include:
- damn, nice car
- damn, nice house
But in this case, netizens must have been rather confused as to how to react.
Damn, nice rice?
TikToker Who Likes to Flex Cash Buys 2 Bowls of White Rice in MBS for $18
Rice is a staple in Asian cuisine, and something many of us eat every day.
Fortunately for us, rice is one of the cheaper items on our grocery list, and lasts a long time.
Even when dining out, rice is typically the cheapest item on your plate. Well, unless you’re ordering from Marina Bay Sands, of course.
A simple video of two bowls of rice has been making the rounds on social media, due to how much the poster had to fork out for them.
The post was made on TikTok by the aptly-named user @richlife1688.
@richlife1688 Most expensive small bowl of white rice
The first thing we see in the video is a receipt; not something that would often get many likes.
As you can see, this TikToker had ordered room service at MBS. The total charge came up to $18.83, which included $2.83 for GST and service.
The remaining $16, it seems, was paid for “2 Rice”. Given how expensive this rice is, you’d expect it to be biryani or nasi lemak at the very least, right?
Nope.
Believe it or not, this TikTok user paid $16 for two bowls of plain white rice. No gravy, seasoning, or even colour. Just rice.
This may seem steep until you browse MBS’ menu and see everything else on offer:
That’s right, prata costs $18 and nasi lemak costs $36. Now that we know these prices, $8 for a bowl of rice almost seems like a bargain.
Flaunting wealth seems to be a hobby of @richlife1688, as you’ll see in the user’s other posts.
Some days, @richlife1688 shows off luxury watches and other extravagant purchases:
@richlife1688 Walk walk see see
@richlife1688 Go shopping not enough hand to carry
While on other days, lazy days perhaps, the user simply parades thick wads of cash:
@richlife1688 today money stack into neat position
All we can do now is wait for Xiaxue to reveal @richlife1688’s identity using the investigative skills she learned in the NOC case.
