Taobao is Selling Trump Buddha Statue to “Make Your Company Great Again”

However, we are throwing you a curveball today. We are going to “Make Your Company Great Again” with Donald Trump’s Buddha statue.

Taobao is Selling Trump Buddha Statue to “Make Your Company Great Again”

On the largest e-commerce platform in China, shops on Taobao are selling various merchandises using trump’s image despite the former president leaving the white house last year.

The recent merchandise that features Trump’s face is as Buddha statue that will “Make Your Company Great Again.”

The statue has an uncanny resemblance of Trump, sitting cross-legged and with his eyes closed in a Zen position. Trump look-alike was also covered with a robe.

The description says “Make Your Company Great Again”, a wordplay on “Make America Great Again.”

A potential buyer even asked, “Does it really work if I place it at home?”

Some shops described the statue as “Dong (know it all) Buddha of the West” and “Jianguo.”

The statue is available in several Taobao shops retailing for as much as 999 yuan (S$206) for the 16cm statue and 3,999 yuan (S$825) for the 46cm statue.

China’s commercial website has been known to take advantage of Trump to their profit. From the 10-metre-tall rooster to toilet paper rolls with Trump’s face printed on them, Trump is clearly a retail icon in China.

The former president created waves throughout the world during his presidency. During his four-year-term, the Chinese public had a love-hate relationship with him.

From repeatedly calling Coronavirus the ‘China Virus’, to trying to ‘unfriend’ China due to China’s failure to contain the virus, Trump and China had lots of history between them.

On the other hand, Trump was also seen as a source of immense amusement throughout the China public as well.

A commenter even suggested that “Trump is an agent sent by China to win the election in 2016 and disrupt the US to make it as messy as possible, so China can distract US suppression against China and win the competition easily.”
