Did you see the viral video of a security officer rudely clapping at an elderly couple to hurry up?
If you did, you’ll be glad to know that he’s been removed from duties at TTSH. Here are all the details.
Elderly Needed More Time To Get Onto Wheelchair
In the video, you can see an elderly man being carried out of a lorry by his son, while someone else pushed the wheelchair over. This was near the entrance of Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).
The elderly man understandably had to take some time to find his footing before getting seated in the wheelchair.
If you saw this happening in front of you, you might go over and help the family out. Or even if you didn’t, you would have some sympathy and give the family the time they need to get settled down, right?
However, it seems like this one officer had no heart, and showed zero understanding.
Clapped Twice To Ask Family To Hurry Up
I was under the impression that we only clap twice to call small animals to come over. Did he think that the family was a bunch of dogs that can’t understand human languages?
He clapped twice to ask the family to hurry up, since it seems like he suddenly lost control of his vocal cords and forgot how to speak.
Reader Bao: oh look, he spoke!
Well, that removes any benefit of the doubt that the officer got.
He can be heard telling the family to park further down the road, not just once but a few times. This was despite the son and elderly woman gesturing to him that the elderly man needed more time to get seated.
He continued telling the son that the lorry was blocking the road, and will create a jam. Once again, he told the son to park further down when the son was already going to drive the lorry away.
The elderly woman, who has been apologetic this entire time, got frustrated and angrily said, “I said sorry ok!”
She then switched to dialect to explain that the family didn’t have a choice and had to drop the couple off here, since the elderly cannot walk too far.
The security guard actually didn’t seem to understand her words, and offered no reply.

There were plenty of humorous comments, saying that TTSH should have kept him on clapping duty…
While other more serious comments pointed out that the security officers might need more training. This was because the officer mentioned in the video that “rule is rule” when the rules actually say that you can do immediate drop off at that area.
With many more comments sharing similar experiences with security officers, we hope that everyone can extend more compassion to others in the future.
