Unless you have been living under a rock, you’ve got to know about Will Smith and his historic slap at the Oscars.

You can watch this video to know more about the incident:

Comedian Chris Rock made a crack at Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith, as well as her alopecia. In response to the joke, Will Smith stalked up onstage to give Rock a huge smack.

Back in his seat, Smith yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth!”

Twice.

The impact of the slap sent not only Rock reeling backwards, but also halted two of the films Will Smith was scheduled to star in.

Gigs Cancelled

A week before the slap, David Leitch, the director of upcoming Netflix movie Fast and Loose, withdrew from the show to work on an Ryan Gosling film titled Fall Guy instead.

In light of this vacuum, the action thriller was desperately in search of a new director. In conjunction with the Will Smith slap scandal, its entire production has now been delayed.

Other than Fast and Loose, Will Smith was scheduled to appear on Bad Boys 4, a duo cop movie with an established franchise grossing over $840 million worldwide overall so far.

Sony, however, has halted the production of the movie as well because of the slap.

Smith was lauded for his work in King Richard (2021) and awarded an Oscar at the very ceremony he slapped Rock in, moments after the incident, generating global attention and discussion.

In spite of his public apology posted on Instagram, as well as his withdrawal from the Academy of the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, his behaviour has sparked clear backlash from an industry that does not usually choose to condemn with sanctions.

However, not all of Smith’s work has been cancelled or paused, so Smith fans can still look forward to seeing him on the big screen in the future.

Emancipation, an upcoming movie on slavery where Will Smith plays a main role, has not given any updates on delays, and hence can be assumed to be going full steam ahead.
