Woman Exercised So Intensely, Her Urine Turned Black

Did you ever feel that you have exercised too intensely? Most hard-core fitness enthusiasts will tell you that there is no way to overdo exercise but in recent times, a high school young lady proved them wrong by getting herself admitted to the ICU for pushing herself too much in a gym.

This young lady is from Wuhan, China. After finishing her final examinations, she decided to join a weight-loss programme to lose the extra fats that she was unhappy with.

She was determined to get a new look before schools reopens in the next school term.

Well, isn’t that what most of us desire to have, but didn’t follow up on our promise?

But she due. Due to her great desire to lose weight, she did not consider her lack of exercise before her decision to be healthy, and she cycled for an hour on a stationary bike without rest.

While this is not the most intensive exercise for most of us, it was a disastrous workout for her as she had barely exercise before this. Think of her as a weekend warrior who went all out.

Her muscles could not keep up with the intensity of the exercise.

In the following days after her exercise stint, she suffered excruciating pain in her calves and her urine actually turned black.

It was said that the urine was in the colour of soy sauce. She rushed herself to the hospital as she was afraid for her health.

When the doctors saw the results of her test, they were completely shocked. The doctor exclaimed, “The reading of muscle enzymes and myoglobin for normal people is between 100 and 200, but her reading clocked in at above 20,000!”

The doctor diagnosed the young lady with Rhabdomyolysis, a condition where dead muscle fibres release their contents into the bloodstream.

It is a condition that can cause serious health issues such as kidney failure, which can eventually lead to death.

The doctors concluded that the condition is likely caused by the young lady’s sudden increase in strenuous exercises. Her muscles were so overworked by the intense training she subjected them to that they eventually died.

The enzymes and myoglobin were thus released into the bloodstream.

The doctors warned that this could potentially damage other organs besides the kidneys!

Thankfully, the young lady is currently in a stable condition after the doctor successfully hydrated her body and removed the toxins from her blood.

The scary story of this young lady taught us one important lesson – if you are just starting out on your fitness journey, take it slow and increase the intensity gradually.

If your muscles are sore, please rest them well before continuing your exercise. You should also increase your water intake to flush out the toxins in the blood.

The rule of the thumb is always this: do it progressively.

So, fellow exercise kakis, please watch out for one another and stay safe while keeping healthy!
