Soft-boiled eggs are a breakfast staple in Singapore. However, it’s not all roses and sunshine when it comes to soft-boiled eggs.

When a Toast Box employee served this woman her soft-boiled eggs, she appeared unhappy that they weren’t already cracked open.

She proceeded to toss them at the employee.

Here’s what happened.

Woman Unhappy that Eggs Weren’t Cracked Open

On 31 March, District Singapore uploaded a video on Facebook depicting a woman wearing black standing at the Toast Box counter.

The video’s caption noted that it is unknown which Toast Box the incident occurred in.

It added, “Karen shows disrespect to the operator over the counter.”

Notably, the woman is seen holding up her phone towards the employee behind the counter, seemingly to record the incident.

However, it is yet to be known if she was recording the employee.

At the start of the two-minute video, the woman is seen saying something to the employee, who is busy serving other customers.

She was visibly displeased when the employee served her two uncracked eggs in a dish.

She can be heard asking for the eggs to be cracked open in Mandarin.

The employee proceeded to put a teaspoon in the dish, presumably to give her a tool to crack open the eggs.

Instead of leaving, the woman is seen tossing the eggs, the dish and the tray at the employee.

She then shouts, “Crack the eggs!” repeatedly.

The employee was taken aback by the woman’s actions and reminded her that there were witnesses.

The woman remained undeterred and tossed another tray at the employee, continuously demanding that the employee crack her eggs.

The employee then put the tray back in front of the woman.

The woman then pushes the tray away, resulting in both women pushing the tray back and forth.

When the woman finally received a dish containing the cracked eggs, she was seen scrutinising them.

She then commented that the eggs weren’t cooked properly and had water in them.

Appalling Behaviour

The video has since gone viral, garnering 49k views at the time of writing.

Needless to say, the incident did not crack anyone up.

Netizens were appalled by the woman’s behaviour.

Some wondered why nobody stepped in since tossing items around could be dangerous.

Other Karens

If you didn’t already know, “Karen” describes someone who displays self-entitlement and off-putting behaviour.

If this slang word boggles your brain, you can read this article to learn more.

Unfortunately, Singapore has seen its fair share of “Karens”.

In 2020, a woman made a big hoo-ha after being told to wait in line and wear a mask when she wanted to place her order.

This incident occurred in August 2020, meaning that she was legally required to wear a mask.

She was rightfully described as a “Karen”.

In 2021, a TikTok video went viral.

It depicted a woman on the MRT asking another passenger, “How come your baby never wear a mask?”

While this incident occurred when masks were mandatory, babies were exempted from this rule.

The user who uploaded the video called the woman a “Karen” in the video’s caption.

Another incident occurred in 2022, where a now-deleted video depicted a woman displaying aggressive behaviour towards a man.

Why?

He had mumbled some Hokkien vulgarities towards her.

She and her husband had cut the queue to the lift and blocked his way.

While vulgarities shouldn’t be condoned, the man’s frustration was understandable.

Goody Feed has contacted BreadTalk Group, which operates Toast Box, for comment on the incident.
