If you’re a normal person, you probably hate walking and sweating while waiting for the bus.

Well, I have good news for your legs and sweat glands.

New transport hub

An integrated transport hub linking a new air-conditioned bus interchange, MRT station, and the Northpoint City shopping mall will be open in Yishun on September 8.

The transport hub offers commuters better connectivity and barrier-free access.

Basically, that means shorter walking distances and less time under the scorching sun.

These barrier-free features are designed for those who are less mobile, such as the elderly, the disabled, and families with young children, said LTA.

These features include:

  • Boarding points at each berth
  • Graduated kerb edges to facilitate boarding for those in wheelchairs
  • Priority queue zones with seats
  • A nursing room
  • Barrier-free alighting areas and toilets

Elderly & Disabled-Friendly

Singapore’s 10th transport hub will also be the first to have Heart Zones. Now, before you go there in search of your life partner, this is not a place for single people to mingle.

Heart Zones are designated areas where commuters such as the elderly and visually-impaired can seek help. Another room will be set aside for special needs commuters who need access to a quiet and calming space.

Other Features

600 bicycle lots will also be available near the bus interchange.

In addition, bus drivers and other employees will get upgraded facilities like an air-conditioned staff canteen, dedicated staff toilets, and a lounge. The interchange is also equipped with a reverse warning system to detect bus movements and improve safety.

What about the bus routes?

Buses currently operating from the temporary bus interchange will adjust its routes once the transport hub opens. These buses will soon start operating from the new bus interchange.

I don’t know about you, but I find the wait for buses more tolerable if I’m not drowning in a pool of my own sweat.
