Attacks involving sharp objects don’t usually occur too often here, and if they do, they tend to take place indoors.
If such an attack were to take place on the street, it’d be much easier for the police to identify them, with the help of witness testimony and security cameras.
As this story will show, bad guys don’t really have a place to hide in Singapore; if you commit a misdeed, especially out in public, you’re going to get caught.

25YO Man Allegedly Stabbed Another Man in Yishun; Suspect Arrested Within 6 Hours
At 11:40pm on Saturday night (2 Oct), the police received a call about an attack that took place in Yishun Street 31.
When they arrived, they found a man who had suffered lacerations to his chest and shoulder.
It turns out that an unidentified man had allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife that night, and fled the scene before police officers arrived.
Fortunately, officers from the Woodlands Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect.
The man, identified as a 25-year-old, was arrested within six hours of the crime being reported.
Well done, officers.
He will be charged in court today with voluntarily causing hurt by a dangerous weapon.
If convicted, he could face up to seven years’ imprisonment, caning, or any combination of these punishments.

The victim, who was found injured, was conscious when they were taken to hospital.
Man Stabbed Officer After Locking Himself in a Room with a Gas Canister and Lighter
Another stabbing took place earlier this year in February, only this time, a police officer was the victim.
On the morning of 8 February 2021, 65-year-old Liaw Chong Guan locked himself in his rental room at 124 Lor 1 Toa Payoh and was threatening to hurt himself.
After receiving a call for assistance, the police arrived some five minutes later, only to see Liaw armed with a gas canister and lighter. He was also holding a 20-cm long knife.
Liaw, who was previously jailed for drug abuse, thought these officers were from the Anti-Narcotics Bureau.

So, when officers tried to apprehend him, Liaw put up a fight, and ended up stabbing one of the officer’s thighs.
He was eventually subdued and taken into custody.
The officer sustained a 2cm wound and was discharged with 14 days of hospitalisation leave.
Liaw later pleaded guilty in court to drug abuse and assaulting an officer, and was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.
