This is one big challenge, honestly. You want it cheap and good?
Okay, challenge accepted but maybe some no air-con one hor. Here’s my attempt at 10 best makan places under $15 you can bring your girlfriend to this Christmas!
1. Big Fish Small Fish
The fish comes with crisps and you can top it off with the different sauces they offer, such as cheese, salted egg, XO mayo or tartar. Most importantly, they provide plastic gloves to keep your fingers clean so you can hold your girlfriend’s hands.
5 different types of fishes to choose from: dory, tilapia, seabass, salmon or arrowtooth flounder. There’s something for everyone!

2. Carpenter & Cook
Expect freshly made cakes and bakes at Carpenter & Cook. If you want to avoid the Christmas crowd, drop by for morning or afternoon tea? It’s not just sweets if you’re wondering. They have pastries too!

3. Astons
You can get quality western cuisine at affordable prices here and they have a special Christmas menu specially for us this festive period.
But just take note that this $12.90 offer is only at ‘Astons Speciality’ as advertised in their promotion graphic!

4. Rabbit Owl Depot (Bugis)
This is the place you go to for tarts, ice cream, waffles or croffles! The environment is perfect for some quiet time during off peak season. Expect some crowd in the evenings.

Friday: 9am to 11pm
Saturday: 12pm to 11pm

5. Ajumma’s Korean Restaurant
Technically they aren’t a restaurant but a small Korean eatery at Dhoby Ghaut. Get your authentic Korean food cravings settled here and your girlfriend will say “사랑해” (I love you)!

6. Café&Meal MUJI
There’s a couple of choices for you here. You can order ala carte (hot or cold deli) or go for their sets which I think it more affordable as a whole. Did I mention it’s also a healthier option?

7. Ah Bong’s Italian
For $12 nett, enjoy a set meal comprising of your choice of pasta, a drink and a homemade dessert. What more can I say? Their menu is fresh everyday so follow them on Facebook for the latest update!

8. Toasties
At Toasties, they have only 1 rule: DO IT TASTY. That’s why they swear that their sandwiches will leave you craving for more. Kidding, they didn’t swear, it was stated on their website.

9. Muthu’s Curry
There are vegetarian options here so if either of you are vegans, give them a try. I’m always guilty of going for the free-flow papadums… you can do so too! Here’s a look at the green menu:
But non-vegetarians, there’s more options for you, don’t worry! For their mains, choose from chicken, mutton, seafood or kebabs. You will be spoilt for choice, really. Here’s their full menu.

10. Shi Li Fang
Before you curse me out, there’s a $9.90 steamboat in town. Yes, this place offers Taiwanese style hot pot with lunch deals starting from $9.90. You get a basic set that consists of vegetables, meat and rice.

Woo! While I first started I thought it would be difficult to find something below $15.
But with that said, it’s the festive season after all so if you’ve planning to drop by with bae on Christmas eve or Christmas day itself, please call the respective outlets before going.
