1) Do you take it as a compliment when your colleagues say you work too much?

2) Do you work at home when you should be binging on Netflix?

3) Are you that person who arrives way too early for work and leaves way too late?

If you answered yes to one of the above questions, you may be a workaholic.

If you answered yes to two of the above questions, you might be a writer at Goody Feed.

And if you answered yes to all three questions, then you’re probably Singaporean.

But it may be time to stop wearing the workaholic label as a badge of honour because it might just end up killing you.

36YO Man Dies During Job Interview After Continuously Working Overtime In His Previous Job

That’s exactly what happened to a 36-year-old man from Hangzhou, China.

The man was at a job interview when he suddenly collapsed, according to China Press. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where they discovered that his pupils were dilated.

Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Sudden Cardiac death

The doctor said the man had died from sudden cardiac death, which was caused by several cardiac issues.

He said that while patients with coronary heart disease and hypertension have a high risk of getting cardiac arrests, even those who are relatively healthy can die from sudden cardiac death because they often experience no symptoms before they fall sick.

So, why did this man die?

Overwork

The interviewer later said that the man always stayed up late to work overtime in his previous job. This and the fact that he had high blood pressure may have driven him to find a new job in a new environment.

Sadly, his decision came too late.

The man’s doctor also mentioned that he had treated another patient who suffered an acute myocardial infarction, more commonly known as a heart attack.

Even after his heart attack, the man wanted to rush back to the office as soon as his condition improved because there was a lot of work to do.

So much work, so little time.

Work is Not That Important

For many of us, work is our first priority. We believe that our careers will define us and that we have to work ridiculously hard to progress in our field.

But what if it comes at the expense of quality time with our friends and family or worse, our life?

This will probably come as a shock to you, but Singaporeans are the second most overworked city in the world.

We also rank 32 out of 40 for work-life balance.

Well done, Singapore. *tears up*

So, we Singaporeans more than anyone need to chill when it comes to working.

Stop working overtime and start using that Netflix account that’s been collecting S$10 from you every month for several years now.
