On Friday (5 Nov), the Ministry of Health (MOH) explained that our significantly lower case count for that day – 1,767 – was likely due to fewer swabs being done over the Deepavali holiday.
Well, we now know that this is indeed accurate.
Our daily caseload shot right back to over 3,000 yesterday (6 Nov), where it’s been for the last couple of weeks.
On the other hand, several COVID-19 patients are still succumbing to the disease every day.
12 COVID-19 FatalitiesÂ
12 more COVID-19 cases passed away from complications, taking our total to 480.
Aged between 60 and 98, all of them had various underlying medical conditions, MOH said.
3,035 New COVID-19 Cases
3,035 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday (6 Nov), an increase of 1,268 from the previous day’s tally.
The cases comprise 2,928 infections in the community, 102 in migrant worker dormitories, and five imported infections.
Among the local cases are 501 seniors above 60.
MOH Closely Monitoring 5 Large Clusters
The health ministry is currently monitoring five large clusters, the largest of which is at the Institute of Mental Health.
With eight new cases, the cluster has grown to 374 infections, comprising 350 patients and 24 staff.
One case each was added to the Banyan Home @ Pelangi Village cluster and the cluster at ECON Medicare Centre & Nursing Home, taking their totals to 96 and 36 respectively.
Five new cases were also linked to the Jamiyah Home for the Aged cluster in Tampines, bringing its total to 59. 50 residents and nine staff members have been infected there.
The last cluster on the list – NTUC Health Nursing Home at Geylang East – grew to 17 cases, all of whom but one are residents.
1,666 COVID-19 Cases in Hospital; 139 in ICU
At the moment, there are 1,666 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.
299 serious cases require oxygen supplementation and 139 are in the intensive care unit, comprising 65 cases who are unstable and under close monitoring, and 74 who are critically ill and intubated.
Over the past seven days, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who have been critically ill in the ICU are at 0.5 and 5.1 per 100,000 population respectively.
The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 1.7 and 41.3 respectively.
Over the same period, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who died are 0.1 and 0.8 per 100,000 population respectively.
The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 0.3 and 8.3 respectively.
Currently, 85% of our population has been fully vaccinated and 86% have received at least one dose. 17% have received their booster shots.
Weekly Infection Growth Rises to 0.83
While case numbers have shot back up, our weekly infection growth rate has remained under 1 for the fourth consecutive day.
The rate was 0.83 as of yesterday, an increase from the 0.81 as of Friday.
This refers to the ratio of community cases for the past week over the week before. The authorities previously said that more COVID-19 restrictions could be eased if this rate dips under 1.
