7 Ways to Make Your Battery Last Longer as You Play Pokémon GO

While it has more or less been established that data consumption while playing Pokémon GO isn’t going to be a large issue, there’s a bigger issue that players are concerned about: battery usage.

The game requires not just the app itself but also the use of GPS, which is a battery killer. Unless you’re willing to carry a power bank with you every day, your Pokémon hunting hours are going to be limited.

But there’re still some ways to make your battery last just a little longer. And a little longer is important when there’s a sighting of a Snorlax, right?

Turn on Pokémon GO power saving option
If you’ve been playing the game with this option off, you either have a big battery or your bag is full of power banks. This nifty feature will automatically turn your screen’s brightness off when your phone is facing down, and can be accessed through the app’s setting.

Turn off augmented reality (AR)
On the first few days, catching Pokémon in AR seems innovative and fun, but after a while, you’ll realize that not only does it make the Pokémon harder to catch, it also drains more battery. After all, it requires the use of your camera. It’s about time to catch Pokémon in their wild background!

Adjust your phone brightness
Okay, this is a no-brainer, but hear me out. Most of us set it to auto as we’ve not expected to look at our screen for hours. With Pokémon GO, you’ll be on your phone for tens of hours, and adjusting it lower manually will make the battery last longer.

Turn off the sounds
Hearing the music (especially the one in a gym!) is cool initially, but it’ll get repetitive soon enough. It’s about time for you to turn off the sound, too, giving you more battery juice to catch Pokémon instead.

Turn off auto WiFi
Unless there’re Pokémon in areas with WiFi, turning it off is actually a pretty good idea. Unlike other apps that suck data, Pokémon GO sucks more battery life instead, so you don’t really need the phone to constantly search for a WiFI signal and draining your juice off.

Turn off vibration in the game
Do you know that vibrating the phone requires more battery than sounds? Now you know, so turn that damn feature off.

Close all background apps
If you’ve not had the habit of turning off background apps, now is the time to captivate that habit. Having them running in the background will consume much more energy than you expect, and they’ll stay there forever unless you close them all. Gotta close ‘em all to catch ‘em all!
