For the last year or so, most of our movement has been confined to the internet, largely from show to show on Netflix.
It’s been so long since we’ve travelled abroad that we’ve forgotten what our passports taste like and what it’s like to poop in another country.
Reader: Those things were the highlights of your vacations?
But things have been changing in the past month or so. We now have travel arrangements with nearly a dozen countries that allow fully vaccinated individuals to travel abroad for leisure.
Oh yeah baby, leisure travel is making a comeback.
Today, it seems like Goody Feed will once again be living up to its name, as yet another country could soon be opening its doors to us.
Australia-Singapore Travel Bubble Could Be Established by Next Week
It’s not often that we pay special attention to the words of Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison. But netizens here were delighted yesterday (21 Oct) when he revealed that Singapore and Australia were in the final stages of setting up a travel bubble.
In fact, a quarantine-free travel bubble between the two countries could be established within the next week.
“We anticipate that being able to be achieved within the next week or so, as we would open up to more visa class holders coming out of Singapore, we will see that occur,” he said.
Vaccinated students and business travellers will be allowed into the country first, followed by tourists.
However, since the states in Australia have different rules about quarantine restrictions, the “quarantine-free” part of the bubble may only apply to some states.
New South Wales, where Sydney is located, said it would allow the entry of fully vaccinated travellers from overseas from 1 Nov without the need for quarantine. Victoria, home to Melbourne, is expected to ease quarantine requirements for visitors as well.
The first group to benefit from these plans are Australian citizens and permanent residents stuck abroad.
As PM Morrison said: “The first step (is to) bring Australians home.”
At the moment, Australia only has a quarantine-free travel corridor with New Zealand, which allows residents there to freely visit the country.
PM Lee Delighted By News of Travel Bubble
In response to PM Morrison’s speech, our own prime minister said he was “delighted” “to hear that Australia will be allowing entry to visa holders from Singapore.”
PM Lee Hsien Loong added that he had “encouraged” Mr Morrison to do so when he visited Singapore in June.
“Singapore and Australia have robust economic and investment links, and warm people-to-people ties. Look forward to resuming close connectivity between our countries, as we move towards an endemic COVID future,” PM Lee added.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to taste my passport again.
