Are you the admin of a group that never seems to shut up about Barbie Dolls, even when you want to disseminate information that your only brother's girlfriend's boyfriend's only sister is down with a fever? Do you wish for them to shut up for once, and let you do the talking instead? If you do, I've good news for you. WhatsApp has a new feature, and it purportedly allows you to force everyone else in your group to cease chatting. You, on the other hand, are free to send any messages you want. ... Image: Imgflip Restricted Groups setting If you're the group admin (the only one), you can enable the Restricted Groups setting, which disables all chat functionality for non-admins. Incidentally, chat functionality includes text messages images videos GIFs documents voice messages location In the meantime, admins will be able to continue chatting as per usual. Everyone else will just have to contend with reading in silence. Should someone really want to talk, they can do so via the Message Admin button. However, the message will need to be approved by the all-powerful admin before making its way to the rest of the group. Potentially... devastating While the function does have its perks (like wanting certain important details to remain on the screen instead of being pushed up by newer messages or shutting everyone up so that you can talk about your dog), it could also be... mishandled. For example, your friend Jerry might be infamous for being an inconsiderate prick, and being the admin of the group he decided to shut everyone up just to annoy them. Alas, here's the thing: admins will only be able to switch the setting every 72 hours. This means that group members will be muted for days at a time. So... tough luck if you're a non-admin. But of course, you can always create another group without that asshole la. It's still not the end version The feature's still in the testing phase, so it's definitely prone to changes. So relax guys, it might not be 72 hours. It could be even longer. Just saying. Anyways, I reckon it's time to do some adjustments. If your clique's WhatsApp group happens to be run by a particularly immature brat, now's a good time to kick him/her off the throne and claim it for yourself.
