Amos Yee has been handed four new charges in Singapore over online content he allegedly published concerning race and sexual relationships involving children. He also spoke about the new charges in a TikTok video. https://www.tiktok.com/@amosyeeishere/video/7677841765117873416 The 27-year-old appeared at the State Courts on Wednesday (26 August), where he received two charges relating to racial disharmony and another two under the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA). Together with three existing charges over his National Service obligations, Yee now faces seven charges in Singapore. Two Charges Relate to Allegedly Promoting Racial Disharmony According to charge sheets reported by CNA and The Straits Times, one of Yee's new charges relates to two blog posts he allegedly published on 7 and 11 April 2026. In them, he allegedly made claims about discrimination involving Singapore's Malay and Indian communities and the Chinese majority, and suggested that members of certain communities should protest. A second charge concerns a video he allegedly uploaded to X on 27 May, in which he made further comments about racial discrimination and encouraged members of a racial group to protest. He is accused of knowingly attempting to promote, on grounds of race, feelings of disharmony between different racial groups under Section 298A(a) of the Penal Code. If convicted of such an offence, he can be jailed for up to three years, fined, or both. Two Other Charges Concern Indecent Communications About Children Yee also received two charges under POHA for allegedly making indecent communications likely to cause alarm. One relates to a blog post published on 30 June 2026, in which police said Yee made statements claiming that children could consent to sexual acts and advocated abolishing laws governing the age at which children can legally consent to such acts. The other relates to three videos he made in 2021 while he was outside Singapore. According to police, those videos contained statements advocating sexual relationships involving children and called for laws prohibiting child sexual abuse material to be abolished. For making an indecent communication likely to cause alarm under POHA, an offender can be fined up to S$5,000. Police said they received several reports between April and July 2026 concerning Yee's online content before conducting investigations. On 18 August, police also issued a Disabling Direction under the Online Criminal Harms Act requiring X to remove Yee's May video. X complied. Yee was separately issued Stop Communication Directions requiring him to remove the relevant posts from his personal blog. Yee Was Offered S$15,000 Bail With Additional Conditions The prosecution offered Yee bail of S$15,000 on Wednesday. The bail conditions include restrictions preventing him from posting online about his views on paedophilia or publishing material that incites ill feelings between racial groups. Yee attended court with his mother and did not address the court. His lawyer, Divanan Narkunan, told CNA that the new charges had only been served the previous day and that he was still taking instructions from Yee. The case has been fixed for a pre-trial conference on 18 September. His Planned Guilty Plea for His NS Charges Has Been Cancelled Before these four new charges emerged, Yee was already scheduled to plead guilty on 7 September to three offences under the Enlistment Act. That guilty plea hearing has now been vacated, according to CNA, with the matter instead fixed for the 18 September pre-trial conference. The existing charges accuse Yee of failing to report for his pre-enlistment medical screening from 26 April 2016 to 19 March 2026. He is also accused of remaining outside Singapore without valid exit permits during two periods, from 13 December 2015 to 19 April 2016, and from 15 December 2016 to 19 March 2026. An NS defaulter convicted under the Enlistment Act can be jailed for up to three years, fined up to S$10,000, or both. Yee Returned to Singapore After Being Deported From the US Yee left Singapore for the United States in 2016 and was granted asylum there in 2017. According to a joint statement by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Home Affairs, he was later arrested and charged with sexual offences in the US and sentenced to six years' imprisonment in December 2021. He was eventually taken into US immigration custody for deportation proceedings after his release from prison in November 2025. Yee was deported to Singapore in March 2026 and arrested by Central Manpower Base enlistment inspectors upon his return. He was charged with the three Enlistment Act offences the same day.
