ABC Brickworks Food Centre has seen an increase in business by 10% simply after making this one minor tweak. It changed its light bulbs. Here's what you need to know about it. Improved Business in ABC Brickworks Food Centre After A Change of Lightbulbs Not long ago, it was reported by Lianhe Zaobao that the dim environment in ABC Brickworks Food Centre had affected the food centre's business volume. The dim lighting resulted from using more environmentally friendly LED bulbs after the hawker centre was renovated in June 2020. Yet, these bulbs created a dim environment, which diners reported being uncomfortable. Vendors at the food centre also complained that the lighting problem had caused a 30% reduction in business. Perhaps the hawker centre was starting to look like a haunted house with dim lighting and whatnot. Fortunately, the Tanjong Pagar Town Council has since taken the feedback of diners and vendors and has implemented a partial switch to higher-powered light bulbs at the food centre. While the change in the lighting design has been minor, it has already shown significant effects. Business is reported to have improved by 10% already. Perhaps the influencers weren't lying when they said lighting was essential. Light Bulbs Still in the "Testing Stage" The president of the ABC Brickworks Business Association (BBA) revealed why only a partial switch of the light bulbs had been implemented thus far. The Tanjong Pagar Town Council is still testing which bulbs are the most suitable for the food centre. Not only are different light bulb designs currently being tested, but light bulbs of different wattages are also being tested. The full suite of light bulb replacements will likely only be completed in early March. Diners at the food centre have also shared that the brighter light bulbs make the food centre more vibrant and make food look more appetising. For the foodie Instagram accounts, better lighting means nicer photos as well. Other diners have also suggested the Town Council experiment with different lighting fixtures to improve the lighting environment in the hawker centre optimally. The Key to Determining Brightness isn't Wattage; Its Lumens Blind testing of these light bulbs, however, is unlikely to work. Using light bulbs of higher wattage might not solve the hawker centre's problems completely. In an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, Li Jianming (hanyu pinyin), the manager of the lighting store Screed, shared that low-wattage bulbs may even be brighter than high-wattage bulbs. The reason? Instead of wattage, brightness is determined by lumens. This information could come in handy the next time you shop for light bulbs. Li also emphasised the importance of lighting design, sharing that downlights are usually used in food centres or coffee shops, given the larger beam angles of downlight bulbs.
