Over in China, You Can Rent a Boyfriend for $0.20 an Hour in a Mall

Deserted your last boyfriend because he was cheating on you with a tree trunk?

Exasperated because there’s no one to carry your heavy ass bags in the mall anymore?

If you tick any one of the both criteria, fret not.

Because over in China, you can rent a boyfriend in a mall, who will proceed to carry your bag, choose clothes and take pictures!

According to Hainan Special Zone News, a shopping mall in Haikou, Hainan province introduced six “shared” boyfriends to unattached ladies from 24 Dec to 25 Dec.

The “boyfriends for hire”, all decked out in suits, stand in six boxes with one side transparent.

Their ages range from 19 to 26.

How does it work?

Operating pretty much like any rental system, single women can scan QR codes on the boxes within the 3-9pm time frame, fork out 1 yuan (S$0.20) and enjoy a “boyfriend’s” company for one hour in the mall.

Incidentally, during that one hour, your “boyfriend” can carry your bag, choose clothes and take pictures together or for you. However, no bodily contact is permitted. So no hanky panky in the handicapped toilet, ladies.

Within five minutes

After the event started, all the men were reportedly taken within five minutes.

This apparently worried organizers to the point where they had to broadcast a reminder that “all participants should follow the instructions and not scare away the boyfriends”.

Additionally, all the “shared boyfriends” were allegedly managers of the mall.

“The selection was based on their looks and height. The boyfriends must be around 1.8 meters,” Shi Guoshan, planning manager at the shopping mall, said.

So how is it like for the aforementioned “boyfriend”?

One of the boyfriends, surnamed Zhuang, said he treated it as an opportunity to “accompany friends to go shopping”. He also took couple’s pictures with customers upon request. “It is one of our services. But we try to avoid body contact, as a rule,” he said.

So what are you waiting for?

If you’re single, want a manly shopping partner or generally just thirsty af, this is your chance.

Although we aren’t really sure whether the promotion is still ongoing.

But hey, ain’t everyday you get to rent a mall boyfriend!
