What are some of the pests that frequently visit your house?

Common visitors would be lizards and cockroaches, while some may see bats every once in a while.

Nothing new right? Everybody gets them.

But I follow my SOP dearly every single time my room gets invaded:

1.Drop everything I’m doing.

2.Grab my phone and laptop.

3.Run out and get help.

4.Camp outside till all is cleared.

However, things may not be so easy for those living in Westcove Condominium.

Invaded by termites

Out of the six buildings in the West Coast Crescent territory, three suffers from this invasion. At least 10 units are affected.

The termites are reported to be found on cupboards, wooden doors, floors, and other furniture, according to Zaobao.

Note: the picture below will be the only picture showing how the infestation looks like because the writer is already grossed out.

Why the condo

Well, I can’t answer on the termites’ behalf (duh), but residents of the area speculated it to be due to the palm trees near the condo.

Not the first time

Three units complained that the infestation started around June last year and is getting worst.

57-year-old Mr Tan says that he spent sixty thousand on renovation when he moved in three years ago.

He found little holes on his door frame and the inside seems to be empty. After removing the frame, he found that it was heavily infested with termites.

Mr Tan then proceeded to check all corners of the house and found that the same fate happened to his kitchen cabinets, wooden door and floor.

He had to remove all cabinets and wooden furniture, kill all the nastiness and renovate again.

Another resident, Mdm Wu, says that the condo was finished in 1998 and she moved in shortly after. According to her, the condo was invaded by termites then as well.

“The management hired pest control services and they found the nest at the palm trees near the condo and got rid of it.”

However, the termites made a surprise comeback four years ago. This recent incident is the third occurrence.

What the management has to say

Mr Lin from the Management Committee of the condo stated that the pest control company from eight years ago promised that the termites will not appear again for the next five years.

Mr Lin also stated that household termites invasion are not part of their job scope.

Which means residents can only blame their unlucky stars lah.

So if you kena and never tell them, then they really cannot help you.

The Management Committee advises residents to inform them directly to address the issue promptly.

Thoughts

Not sure what to say, cos I’m already grossed out. But please do check your homes regularly to avoid any nasty surprises!
