As avid Crash Landing On You viewers will attest to, Yoon Se-ri (played by Son Ye-jin) is a magnanimous woman.
Despite having her social status cut down to level zero in North Korea, the boss of Seri’s Choice still saw fit to reward those who helped her, making sure to express her gratitude and appreciation for all the assistance given.
Truly, what a human.
And yet, here’s the thing. Reel life, while convincing, can never quite translate to real life.
Reel life is fictional; real life is factual. It’s a given, a normality. However, there are instances in which reel life carries over to real life…
And it seems that Yoon Se-ri’s magnanimity is one of them.
Crashing Landing on You Star Donates SGD$114K to Her Hometown, Daegu
As South Korea grapples with a sudden outbreak of COVID-19 cases, Crash Landing On You star Son Ye-jin has made a generous donation of 100 million won (around S$114,945) to her hometown Daegu, where more than half of the total confirmed cases in the country stemmed from.
Her parents are reportedly still residing in the south-eastern city, and the plight in Daegu has proved “heartbreaking” for the actress.
She hopes that her donation can help the lower-income residents, as well as efforts to control the outbreak in the city.
The donation was apparently made to the Daegu branch of the Community Chest of Korea.
Special Care Zone
With the monumental increase in cases of infection, Daegu’s fast running out of resources to control the spread of COVID-19.
The city has since been classified as a “special care zone” by the South Korean government, in a bid to pump in more resources and manpower.
South Korea reported 571 coronavirus cases on Friday (28 Feb), bringing its total to 2,337 cases. 90 per cent of the new cases were in Daegu, as well as the neighbouring North Gyeongsang province.
According to Daegu mayor Kwon Young-jin, the city’s total could reach as many as 3,000 in the coming days as more test results on Shincheonji members materialise.
To date, 13 people in the country have fallen to the outbreak.
As it is, Son Ye-jin’s efforts, while admirable, would only serve as a temporary cessation of resource insufficiency as the city faces its greatest threat in years.
Here’s a simplified summary of the South Korea martial law that even a 5-year-old would understand:
