What better way to celebrate Gardens by the Bay‘s 10th anniversary than with a Sakura floral display and free entry for a week?
Here are all the details for their 10th-anniversary celebrations.
Sakura Floral Display with Tokidoki Characters
Visitors to the Flower Dome this year can look forward to eight full-scale flower displays, including two new ones featuring peonies and hydrangeas. Five of the displays will even be in collaboration with international embassies, so you’ll get to see flowers from all over the world.
However, the one display that I’m sure everyone is the most excited about is the cherry blossoms. And good news: they’re currently blooming in the Gardens.
The seventh edition of the cherry blossom display features 460 cherry blossom and peach blossom trees, from both Japan and Europe.
The display also features torii gates and Japanese floral art by Ikebana International Singapore. Koinobori, or Japanese carp streamers, are also here on loan from the Japanese Association in Singapore.
Of course, many popular characters will be gracing us with their presence amongst the Sakura trees. Five magical Unicornos from the Japanese-inspired lifestyle brand tokidoki will be here for you to take pictures with.
Popular characters SANDy and Donutella will also join the Unicornos in mini-Japan.
If you visit on 5 March or 12 March, you can enjoy free performances and tea ceremony workshops. Performances include a Japanese koto and Chinese erhu performance and Japanese folk dance.
These free treats are organised with the Japan Creative Centre, which is the cultural arm of the Embassy of Japan in Singapore. Don’t say I bojio!
The Sakura display was supposed to be launched by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah, but she tested positive for COVID-19 and couldn’t attend.
Instead, the opening on 4 March was celebrated with the Ambassador of Japan to Singapore, His Excellency Jun Yamazaki. He broke a sake barrel to mark the opening of the display.
The Sakura display will be here till 3 April.
Free Entry for Lower-Income Singaporeans
For its 10th anniversary, Gardens by the Bay is giving lower-income Singaporeans free entry to the Flower Dome, to check out the Sakura floral display.
Those holding on to blue or orange Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) cards can show their cards at the Friends of the Garden centre. They can then redeem free tickets to the Flower Dome.
This redemption will take place from 5 March to 11 March.
Chief executive of Gardens by the Bay, Felix Loh, said that they have strived to be a people’s garden and provide public greenery for all Singaporeans.
Since their launch 10 years ago, more than 100,000 people from over 200 charities have had free access to the Gardens’ attractions. This is in line with Singapore’s goal to create an inclusive society.
