Everyone has some sort of guilty pleasure, though I hate that term as it has a bad connotation to it.
With that said, what is yours?
Mine is laying in bed and binge-watching Netflix shows while eating leftover pizza slices—don’t judge, to each his own.
Your guilty pleasure can easily turn into an addiction if you’re not careful.
Where does one draw the line?
Well, one Malaysian guy had no qualms about divorcing his wife when she tried to intervene his addictive gaming habit.
What happened
According to Oriental Daily, a 25-year-old man in Kuala Lumpur decided to divorce his wife (and his three-year-old daughter) over a mobile game dispute.
Yes, over a mobile game.
The guy in question and his wife, a 25-year-old Chinese national were happily married up until when he came across the perpetrator—“King of Glory”, a popular multiplayer online game.
What started out as an innocent hobby soon turned into something more sinister.
Initially, his wife would play along with him but he felt that her gaming skills were lacklustre so he decided to play with his friends instead.
The wife mentioned that he would often play games with his friends until the wee hours of the morning.
She did try to stop him from playing but it was all in vain.
She explained, “No matter what I did or said, he would not listen to me and continued to be addicted to playing King of Glory while neglecting both of us.”
In her final attempt to put his addiction to an end, she logged into his gaming account and sold off all his gaming achievement which is pretty much the same as “restarting” the game.
When he found out, he went ballistic.
He scolded her and demanded her to leave the house, in front of his parents.
Not to mention, he told her that he would divorce her and he posted a status on WeChat, insulting her.
“I do not have any hope that he will change his behaviour anymore. I came all the way from China to marry him but he did not cherish me and our daughter,” she said.
I am just in shock.
How could someone choose a game over their family?
“Now I just want to get custody of my daughter and return to China to raise her properly,” she added.
Thoughts
Is it just me or is the whole thing bizarre?
Time to step back and wonder, if your addiction is masquerading as a petty indulgence.
