The world is a pretty ****ed up place if I must say.
From a teenager throwing a plastic cone down an HDB flat to a woman drying her panties on a plane, the world is pretty much messed up.
Just when all shred of hope is gone, I came across an article that may restore my faith in humanity.
The article in question is about a terrible road accident and the way other drivers reacted to it—a glimmer of hope we all need, especially on a Tuesday!
What happened
According to New Strait Times, there was an accident involving two cars—Proton Saga and Proton Saga Aeroback—at KM 261.4 of the North-South Highway (PLUS) northbound on 19 Feb.
Both vehicles were flipped over and according to the PLUS spokesman, “traffic was backed up for five km from Ipoh towards Kuala Kangsar”.
The Fire and Rescue Department were alerted about the accident at about 11:31 A.M. and as they were making their way to the location, they saw this:
Cars were parked at the sides of the tunnel, creating a clear entry for the ambulance and the firefighters.
Federal Police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department principal assistant director Superintendent Mustafa Bakri Salleh mentioned that the accident caused a massive traffic jam, making it difficult for the rescue team to pass through.
“But thanks to the cooperation of all, including the traffic police, PLUS staff and road users, rescue units were able to pass to reach the site of the accident,” he added.
By 12 P.M., the lanes which were close was opened and the victims were not in the vicinity when the rescue team arrived.
So in a time where things seem doom and gloom, (I am talking about the impending rise in GST) there is still hope.
I am pretty sure the drivers had places to be—so this act of civic consciousness is a rare sight.
In the wise words of Lemony Snicket: “At times the world may seem an unfriendly and sinister place, but believe that there is much more good in it than bad. All you have to do is look hard enough. and what might seem to be a series of unfortunate events may, in fact, be the first steps of a journey.”
