Today is the day where the much anticipated iPhone X is launched all over the world.
There was so much excitement when they announced iPhone X’s new functions such as the facial recognition in September.
Earlier this week, I talked about how iPhone X demand is still going strong and today is the proof!
For iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, people all over the world queued outside the flagship Apple store, and history repeated itself yesterday.
Channel NewsAsia reported that about 300 people queued overnight outside the flagship Apple store.
Chaos was bound to ensue.
The day before the launch
According to The Straits Times, hundreds of eager Apple fans started crowding along Orchard Road yesterday.
The first person in the queue was a 52-year old housewife, Ila Ahmad, alongside her 19-year old son as they started to queue from 6:30 a.m. That’s like one day before the launch.
Talk about dedication!
They came all prepared with all the essentials needed for an outdoor sleepover—sleeping bags, mineral water and packets of nasi lemak (now, that’s the most important one).
By 5:30 p.m., it looked like as if it was people were volunteering to be part of The Hunger Games.
Customer service executive Jay Singh told The Straits Times that he saw a bunch of people pushing, and people were shouting and screaming.
Well, chaos.
Yeah, I was right. Sounds like The Hunger Games was happening in Orchard Road.
Today
When the clock struck 8, the doors were open.
I can imagine the people being in a state of awe and stupor.
There were two queues—those who pre-ordered and those who are walk-in customers.
From the pre-order queue, Thai students, Kittiwat Wang and Supakorn Reiksiri were at the front.
The last-mentioned customer got the honorary role to be the first guy to get the iPhone X in Singapore, The Straits Times reported.
If you’re wondering about the resilient housewife, Ilha Ahmed, she managed to get 4 iPhones—two purchased by her and the other two purchased by her son.
The limit of two purchases per person didn’t stop people from coming up with innovative ways to get more.
25-year old, Tran Quoc Dat, hailing all the way from Vietnam, came in with his squad—10 friends, to be exact.
All of them snagged two phones each!!!
So the got a total of 22 newly minted iPhone X smartphones!
The swaggy Vietnamese told The Straits Times that he and his squad flew to Singapore just to buy the smartphones and will be leaving tonight.
LIKE A BOSS!
Scalpers on the loose
The Straits Times reported that within two hours of the store opening, more than 20 iPhone X’s were being offered for resale on online sites at exorbitant prices!
I took a look at Carousell….and Lo and Behold, it is like an online bazaar for iPhone X.
The iPhone X retails at $1,648 (64GB) and $1,888 (256GB), and these scalpers are charging them for 2000 bucks.
Worth it meh?
Why don’t you just wait it out for a few months?
Oh, well. Maybe the queue was worth it.
If there are die-hard Taylor Swift fans (including myself), I guess I have to come to terms with people being obsessed over a smartphone.
