The news of yet another tragic stabbing incident, the second to occur in the month, has shocked the nation once again, leaving many wondering how come such a tragic incident of this nature came about.

Following the death of a woman stabbed at a void deck in Tampines, another woman was discovered to have been stabbed to death at Jurong East as well on 16 Feb, with the culprit having been apprehended since.

Police investigations are still ongoing, but eyewitnesses have since come forward to shed some light on what led to the escalated situation.

Neighbours Watched It Unfold

On that fateful night, a couple was going around their daily routine, with the housewife putting her baby to sleep at around 11:30pm while her husband was sitting in the living room watching TV – when the tranquility was broken by loud screaming and a commotion going on downstairs.

Ms Tan, the 33-year-old housewife, recounted hearing a man shouting loudly, ‘Come here, come here! Follow me! Don’t run away!’

All of a sudden, the commotion came to an end.

Ms Tan and her husband, curious as to what happened, ran to their balcony where they lived on the 9th floor of Block 309 Jurong East Street 32 and saw a shocking visual ahead.

They saw a woman lying on the floor below the opposite block, Block 308, surrounded by a pool of blood, while a man was bent over her, seemingly trying to stop the blood flow coming from her neck.

She was later identified as a 34-year-old Malaysian national.

18-year-old student Esther Ling also heard a loud scream and saw the aftermath of the incident, saying that “there was someone trying to help her. It looked like he was trying to hold her up.”

She lives in the same block as the couple, but on the fifth floor, where she got a view of the scene from her corridor.

Others Tried To Help Her

Although Ms Tan and her husband did not manage to see the whole incident, they said they saw others walking around the blood-surrounded lady and the man on the ground, looking frantic.

The neighbours said that they were not affected by the loud noises coming from downstairs, as a group of men usually hung out loudly at the residents’ corner of Block 309 every night.

Ms Tan added that she originally thought that the woman had been arguing with those men who then came to attack her.

However, they were actually the ones helping her, she said, seeing the woman surrounded by a lot of blood and not moving.

Her husband called the police then, who arrived with an ambulance soon after. The couple then went downstairs to check the situation out.

The woman appeared to be awake while being transferred to the ambulance, and was even responsive, holding up gestures to signal that she was okay to paramedics who were trying to keep her conscious.

She arrived at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital shortly after, but sadly passed away at around 1:30am.

“I was so worried about her, but I really thought she was okay. That’s why when I read the news this morning and saw she died, I was very sad,” said Ms Tan.

A 35-year-old Chinese national has been arrested for murdering the woman, and will be charged in court on 18 Feb. They were believed to be a couple.

For murder, one faces the death penalty under Section 302(1) of the Penal Code.
