Car rental is becoming a norm in Singapore, with many companies providing such a service and people being attracted to its convenience and relatively low price point compared to buying a car, especially with the ever-rising COE.
One such company that provides the car rental service is BlueSG, which makes use of electronic vehicles and car park spaces located near HDBs.
While it usually is always a joy to rent a car and go for grocery or supper runs, this is not the case for Choar Choong Leong, who had a bad experience dealing with an accident that involved him in a BlueSG vehicle and a lorry.
Lorry Allegedly Was at Fault
Recounting the incident on Facebook, Choar mentioned that the BlueSG he rented did not have a camera installed.
This resulted in him not having any form of evidence to prove his innocence, costing him a total of $9,700.
Despite doing all the relevant checks before moving off, Choar mentioned that he could not control external factors.
He goes on to say that a lorry driver was allegedly speeding and lost control of his steering wheel when turning in from a corner.
This resulted in it scraping the side of the BlueSG vehicle, causing damage to its side and the front bumper.
When both parties got off to exchange information, the lorry driver told Choar that the dent on his lorry was caused by another accident in the past, which Choar did not believe.
Asked for a Cost Breakdown
Upon investigation of the incident, BlueSG asked Choar to pay a total of $9,700 for the damage that was incurred.
However, Choar was sceptical about the quoted price and asked the car rental company for a cost breakdown as he wanted to understand what he was paying for fully.
He goes on to say that fixing a bumper and the steel bar of the vehicle should not cost so much.
Choar mentioned in his post that he wrote a full explanation of the incident and also a cost breakdown but was simply “ghosted” by the company as he did not manage to receive any reply.
Netizen’s Comments
In the post, many netizens commented on the experience, with some sharing their own.
One netizen mentioned that a similar incident happened to him in the past, and the company allegedly overcharged him $3,000 and has yet to repay him the amount.
Other netizens mention that because it is a rental car, it is very hard to settle the matter privately.
