You might have recently heard of the Malaysian man who ate a puppy and described what it tastes like to be in a stew.
Netizens have gone crazy over this claim, with some calling him inhuman and should be behind bars for this unethical act of cruelty.
However, a recent interview clarified that accused Mr Chen Taiyu, a soymilk vendor, did not in fact kill and eat the dog.
Puppy is Alive & Doing Well
Since the video went viral, the soymilk vendor has come out to clarify that the dog is still alive and doing well.
The dog is currently at a scrap metal factory, where it is living happily. He further added that the puppy has transformed into an adult dog, who is being cared for by an employee of the factory.
Joke Was to Deter Woman from Giving Out Puppies
Mr Chen said that he initially wanted to return the puppy to the original owner, May, who left in a hurry after giving him the dog out of the blue.
However, he was not able to do so as he did not manage to find any contact information.
This made him furious as the woman, May, did not ask for his consent before leaving him with the puppy.
He also stated that May visited him four times, accusing him of mistreating the puppy as well as killing it.
In a moment of anger, Mr Chen blurted out to May that he did indeed kill the dog and even ate it. He added that if she were to give out her dogs to random strangers, this might be the outcome as a joke to deter her from giving out more dogs.
Not long after his “joke’” Mr Chen realised the gravity of the situation after one of his friends showed him a social media post of the backlash he has received.
This was when he decided to call the police to ensure that he clarifies the situation before it got out of hand.
Puppy Ran Away
According to Mr Chen, he believed that he and the puppy did not get along well, possibly due to the puppy being unfamiliar with the new environment, which was his home.
This led to the puppy running away from Mr Chen, where it ended up at the scrap metal factory.
Upon seeing the puppy at the factory, Mr Chen approached it to check up on it, where he somehow deduced that the puppy was eventually adopted by the factory employees.
Sorry for Such a Hideous Joke
After the ordeal, Mr Chen has said that he should not have said what he had said and that he is very sorry for any confusion that he has caused.
He further mentioned that he is a dog lover and already has a dog of his own, and that he will never hurt a dog.
How The Viral Incident (i.e. Joke?) Started
It all started when May posted this on Malaysian Homeless Animal Movement Facebook page, in hopes that the virality of their post could raise awareness to the animal cruelty and possibly get the man arrested.
She also posted a video of what happened.
Speaking in Cantonese, Mr Chen could be seen admitting that he slaughtered (劏; tong), to which May asks him what he meant by that.
Mr Chen confirmed in a dismissive tone that he killed the dog, though there are three versions: the first being that he was the one to bury the hatchet, the second being that his maternal uncle did it, and the third explanation was that it was a random Myanmar man who killed it.
When May asked why he killed the puppy instead of returning it to her, Mr Chen responded that the puppy was already his and its life and death was his business.
Mr Chen then tells her that his family hails from Guangxi, China, claiming that it’s normal for natives there to kill all kinds of animals for food.
He also drags the entire Semnyih area—the place where he currently lives—down with him, stating that the residents are all dog meat lovers.
He laughs after saying this.
Mr Chen then tells her to leave and not disturb his business while he’s tending to the stall.
