If you think pets and humans are the only ones with birthdays, you are wrong.
Our iconic structure, the Merlion, will be turning 50 on 15 September 2022. Since the Merlion is like a VIP in Singapore, there will be a month’s worth of celebrations to commemorate the special occasion.
Merlion Statue Will Be Illuminated from Now Until 28 Sept to Celebrate Its 50th Anniversary
The Merlion Statue at Merlion Park will be illuminated from 6pm to 12am from 15 to 28 September 2022.
With the gorgeous light and colours, it creates the perfect photo opportunities for pictures with the lion.
After you are done with your shots, head over to The Fullerton Hotel which is nearby Merlion Park.
The hotel will be lit in warm, golden hues this month. This is an idea to bring your date for a stroll there as it is a romantic sight.
Exclusive Local Merchandise Available
There will also be exclusive Merlion and Merli-themed merchandise from local brands. This includes children’s apparel, furniture, and even customised chocolate.
We talk about support local all the time, so now is the best time to support them if you haven’t done so.
These merchandises are from local brands like Boldr, doob Bean Bags, and Edupod. You can find some of them retailing at Design Orchard from 1 September 2022 to 4 October 2022.
Other Island-wide Celebrations
There are five eateries at Marina Bay Sands creating themed drinks, and SingPost is also having exclusive Singapore Mascots stamps if you are a stamp lover and collector.
There’s no better to get pumped for the celebrations than with a dose of adrenaline, and thrilling activities abound all across the island.
And if you are an adventurous person, try out the “Merli-Go-Round x Merlion 50th edition” game on the Singapore Travel Guide app or find them through the Prudential Merlion 50 Hunt Challenge from 9 September 2022 to 22 September 2022.
Don’t say bojio, because you will receive a limited edition Merli Wrist Rest Plushie, which is extremely useful for office slaves sitting at their desks from 9am to 6pm.
