On 15 March, a migrant worker touched the hearts of thousands of online netizens with a simple act of kindness.
The migrant worker by the name of Mukul braved the rain and slippery drain walls just to help a fellow citizen retrieve an Airpod Pro which had fallen into the drain.
@10.lifts Was cycling and my airpods pro just flew out when I accidentally brushed my hair, so heng that it fell right into the drain 🤦🏼♀️ !! Found this guy #Mukul ♬ original sound – Elaine Liu

Details of the Incident
On that rainy day, Elaine Liu, who goes by the handle of @10.lifts on Tiktok, happened to be cycling in the rain. When she was brushing her hair back, she happened to knock off the Airpod Pro in her ear and of all the places it could have landed, it fell into the drain.
Elaine would have been lucky if it had been those covered ones, but nope, in the name of Murphy’s Law, anything that can go wrong, will definitely go wrong.
Because her Airpod Pro—which costs $200 at least—fell into a drain with railings. And it’s one of those one-person tall, deep drains too.
Fortunately, she managed to contact this migrant worker by the name of Mukul, who walked the distance of two bus stops, and through the pouring rain, to get to Elaine’s location and help her.
Serious props to the man.
Then with the finesse of a pro, he pulls up the drain railings and drops himself into the drain to pick up the Airpod Pro that Elaine had dropped, handing her the white earpiece before scaling back up the slippery and algae-stained walls.
Elaine was incredibly touched by his gesture, agreeing with the comments which stated that “sometimes they are the best fellow to be around” and that “they deserve respect and acknowledgement”.

After the Incident
Naturally, Elaine thanked Mukul for his willingness to help her.
She snapped a selfie with Mukul to ensure that she would remember the incident and his facial features.
Since Elaine had been rushing off for another appointment which she was already late for (or so the comments allege) and she didn’t have any cash on hand at that instance, she only took down Mukul’s name and number, but she promised and hoped that she would be able to repay his act of kindness.
Netizens’ Response
Of course, the comment section was filled with nothing but praise for Mukul.
Apart from their praises, they really hope that Mukul is compensated for his efforts, in one form or another, which Elaine plans to do.
One of the commenters even went as far as saying that they “would like to give him some cash for being so kind” and because “he truly deserves it”.
That’s a liked comment from me!
(It should be stated that Singapore is a small place, and some netizens have the tech-savviness to become private investigators, because another commenter actually managed to identify the company and dormitory that Mukul was from, which is Yao Heng Builders and they’re based in Changi Lodge 2.)
Others have given broader suggestions, like supporting or donating to Non-Profit Organisations that are geared towards helping migrant workers such as ItsRainingRaincoats and Mujulah Belanga.
They are good causes to support, especially with the COVID-19 situation and all the tiresome and labour-intensive work they do in Singapore.
Nevertheless, it was really nice of Mukul to go through all that lengths to help Elaine, so kudos to him!
Let’s also hope that Elaine’s Airpod is still working after it, uh, took a long dip in the flowing rain waters.
When Yiruma composed the song “River Flows Through You”, he probably didn’t have this scenario in mind…
