ORTO, a 24-hour Leisure Park that opened in 2014, was popular for its kampung-style ambience, fishing activities, green spaces, and delicious food.
It has been a go-to place for relaxation and entertainment in Singapore.
One of its most famous food items was the cheap Thai Boat noodles, which came in small bowls and were popular among foodies.
Moreover, it became a popular challenge for some people to see how many bowls they could finish.
Unfortunately for people who liked their food and beverage establishments (F&B), ORTO has to shut down its establishment in Yishun by mid-2023 due to government plans to redevelop the area into residential buildings.
Nonetheless, the unique prawning place has found a new home on West Coast and is still thriving.
Moved from Yishun to West Coast
In another win for the Westies, ORTO Leisure Park’s new outlet, Prawning at ORTO, recently relocated to a new site at West Coast.
This was announced on their Facebook page on 22 April 2023, which celebrated their grand opening the same night.
The new facility, located at 27 West Coast Highway, is reportedly Singapore’s biggest prawning establishment, with ten ponds containing big-head prawns and yabbies.
Other businesses and bistros from their previous Yishun location have also moved with them.
Like their previous location in Yishun, visitors can experience the thrill of catching seafood and bonding with family and friends anytime.
Their new location is also open 24 hours daily, except when private events are scheduled.
The pricing for freshwater prawning is listed as $20 per hour, $38 for three hours, and a ten-hour package is available at $108.
The ten-hour package comes with two rods for people coming in pairs.
For groups of 20 or more, private sessions with exclusive ponds are available.
Well-Known for Its Previous Attractions
ORTO Leisure Park in Yishun is a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts and families looking for a fun day out.
As a result, the Singapore Land Authority’s (SLA) announcement of its imminent closure made tenants and residents around Yishun understandably sad as the park had offered many facilities besides one catered to fishing.
The park offers three modes of fishing, namely prawning, fishing at their huge fishing pond, Fishing Paradise, and longkang fishing, a nostalgic activity for older Singaporeans who have experienced living in Kampungs.
In addition to fishing, ORTO at Yishun features a Katapult Trampoline Park for thrill-seekers.
The park has interconnected trampolines that offer various activities, such as dodgeball, wall running, and specialised fitness classes.
The facility also has Uber Sports, which provides top-grade artificial turf installations for the ultimate playing experience.
Apart from the physical and fishing activities, ORTO at Yishun has nine dining options, including SEA Kitchen, which offers South-East Asian cuisine, Tasty Loong by Chef Pung, which serves Chinese cuisine; and a Thai Mookata Restaurant.
Wide Range of Attractions & Amenities at New Facility
Suppose you are one of the residents that are saddened by the imminent disappearance of previous attractions in Yishun.
In that case, there’s good news: the new facility at West Coast also has a variety of activities for you to enjoy.
One of the main attractions is prawning, and at Prawning at ORTO, consumers are provided with baits and rods, so they don’t have to purchase their own.
Additionally, electric grills are available on-site for those who want to grill the prawns they catch, and these extra amenities come at no additional cost.
For those who simply want to spend time outdoors, Prawning at ORTO also screens live football matches on its premises, making it a great weekend hangout spot.
Other amenities at the facility include the West Coast Cue Sports Club, a dance studio, fencing, a Wushu centre, and Ignite Spaces.
Billiard lovers will enjoy the West Coast Cue Sports Club, while game enthusiasts will appreciate Ignite Spaces and its specially designed areas for various board games.
On top of its many attractions, Prawning at ORTO stated on its Facebook page that customers could look forward to future updates on special events, contests, and giveaways where they can win cash and prizes.
Various F&B Offerings Available at the New Facility
Patrons can also relive memories made at ORTO’s Yishun location at the West Coast location as Prawning at ORTO has brought several F&B options from Yishun with them.
These options include frog porridge, Red Dot from Dempsey, Volta Bistro, After Hours Gelato, Komezu Japanese food, Mo’s Grill Western food, and authentic Thai cuisine from Kinn Dem.
Customers can taste Red Dot’s home-brewed craft beer, After Hours Gelato’s thick toasts, and delicious ice cream.
Western food enthusiasts can indulge in Mo’s Grill’s famous hamburgers.
At the same time, customers can replace the void left by the imminent disappearance of Yishun’s Thai boat noodles with Kinn Dem’s authentic Thai dishes.
Its unique mermaid-themed cafe and KTV bistro also add to the overall experience.
Furthermore, the establishment has a Zi Char eatery called 88 Seafood, which prepares the catch from customers’ prawning sessions upon request.
This allows customers to enjoy prawning and dining in one location.
