The Reason Why Yole Said ‘Bye’ to LlaoLlao is Finally Revealed

In this latest issue of Yole weekly, we dish out the dirt, sand and grit of the ongoing Yole-Llaollao feud, as well as dips on the best pick up lines to use on that McDonald’s auntie so that she’ll give you more cheese.

Right, just disregard the second part, because they seem to be giving more cheese nowadays (no paid advertisement intended).

But I wasn’t kidding about the first:

There’s yet another update in the never-ending Yole-Llaollao saga, but this time, Yole’s firing the bullets.

A brief recap

In case you’re unaware, let me just recap Yole vs Llaollao The Movie parts 1 and 2real quick.

It all started when Llaollao made an unexpected announcementit’ll be closing down on 7 Dec, and all 29 of it’s existing outlets’ll be taken over by European Froyo brand Yole.

Less than a week after the closure, Llaollao came back with pretty startling newsthe takeover had not been a democratic decision. It then proceeded to set a fine line between itself and Yole, acknowledged Yole as a self-proclaimed European brand that doesn’t actually hail from Europe, before stating that it’ll be making a comeback soon.

Yeah, stuff of dramas. Way to make it dramatic.

Anyways… Yole has fired back.

And all of a sudden, the tables have turned.

Disrespect of the agreement

According to a statement to Marketing, the break-up was due to “conflicts and various obstacles” encountered in the business relationship.

At the very beginning, D+1 Holdings (the master franchisee rights holder of Yole) had come across the business opportunity for frozen yogurt in Asia, and decided to acquire the rights for Llaollao in Asia after extensive market research.

“We have put in tremendous effort in expanding Llaollao across Asia. We have invested a large amount of financial and personal resources to develop the brand and we have expanded the business rapidly with unprecedented standards in the F&B industry. The facts speak for themselves,” the statement read.

To further elaborate, Llaollao had apparently first opening in Singapore at Marina Square “with little success”. After investing effort and resources into developing the brand, D+1 subsequently opened outlets in 313 Somerset and Plaza Singapura.

“Once Llaollao was very successful across Asia, unfortunately, Llaollao HQ Spain did not respect the agreement and took advantage of its position as a franchisor, despite our numerous attempts to solve the issues amicably,” the spokesperson added.

D+1 strongly believes that customers’ demand included “improvements on the menu”, “wider variety” and “more flavours”.

“Llaollao HQ vehemently rejected all our suggestions and imposed many other obstacles in Singapore, as they had already done in the past with other master franchisees in different countries before. This includes Chile, Portugal, Russia, Italy, Slovakia, Belgium, Taiwan, Thailand, etc, that had also left the llaollao brand,” the spokesperson said. The statement added:

“This unilateral hostile attitude forced D+1 Holding to make the difficult decision to seek for alternatives in order to protect our customers’ interest and our position as a corporation.”

Yole

Incidentally, the core values of Yole “mirror that of the demanding Singapore market”. This was after the company had gone through “very profound research”, coupled with “extensive experience in the F&B industry and understanding of the Singapore market”.

“Yolé has the components to be a distinguishable market leader with innovation centres in Italy and Spain (artisan experts of the ice cream industry, pioneers in technology and research). Thus, Yolé is able to bring an innovative menu and the latest products to the market,” the statement read.

That changes things

Folks, it seems that we have hit the plot twist.

Llaollao, the entity with whom we have always been allied with, would seem to be the one at fault here, rather than the maligned.

But of course, we can’t judge solely based on one side of the equation.

I guess we will just have to wait a couple more days (less than a week if my self-projected algorithm is correct) for Llaollao to respond.

Until then, just live knowing that Yole is essentially an “improved” Llaollao with a wider variety of flavours.

Damn, what a shocker. I’m absolutely shook.
