If you’re an NSman, you’d know that the SAF eMart is worth paying attention to for a few items:
- Swimming trunks
- Day bag
- PT shoes
After all, for the last item especially, you get a pair of branded running shoes at a fraction of their cost.
And because it’s meant for exercising, you know they’re going to keep you safe and comfortable while you’re working out.
For folks who’ve been nodding along like a Shiba Inu to what I’ve written about so far, I’ve got great news for you:
SAF Has New PT Shoes Again & This Time, They Have Super Fancy Names
The two favourite brands of SAF, Asics and New Balance, has come through once again for all fighting fit (and some fighting fat) men in Singapore.
On 4 Feb 2022, a video of defence minister Ng Eng Hen trying on the new shoes and exercising was uploaded to Facebook.
The Asics shoes, GEL-JOLT, features a cool black and red design, which reminds you of MCU spiderman after the makeover by Tony Stark if you squint your eyes and tilt your head 35.6 degrees to the right:
Ng’s review: “Quite nice looking black shoes.”
The New Balance shoes, ME565v7, on the other hand, features a design on the opposite end of the spectrum, likely to keep you safe even if you’re out running at night:
Ng’s review: “Ooh, nice.”
Well, I get safety first is a tenet in the SAF, after all.
Cost & Details
Now, for the magic number.
How much would you need to get them for yourself? As it turns out, not very expensive:
- Asics: S$35.90
- New Balance: S$43.55
These shoes don’t just look great, they work great for running too.
The GEL-JOLT comes with:
- a reflective logo for enhanced visibility under low light
- provides support for neutral to high-arch feet
- has shock absorption and stability for rear of feet (something we need as our knees wear down)
The ME565v7 has:
- Reflective screen print accents for enhanced visibility under low light
- Heel foam and mid-sole foam for shock absorption
- provides support for neutral to high-arch feet
Where To Get Them
For fellow NSMen who’ve graduated from full-time service, don’t worry, the eMarts at SAFRA Punggol and Chevrons has been stocking them since January 2022.
For fellow soldiers who wants to get them from eMart online, these shoes will be listed on the online portal on 7 Feb 2022.
But given the penchant for Singaporeans to chiong for anything trending, you better be fast because available stocks might just run out soon.
