Due to China’s Zero Tolerance for COVID-19 policy, which involves large-scale lockdowns, mass testing and international travel bans, things have been getting tough for both the people within its domestic borders and the global market as a whole.
For Cantopop Singer Sammi Cheng, it means that she has to stop work as Hong Kong fights against the fifth wave of COVID-19.
Given the current circumstances of Singapore, where Omicron is proving to be an unstoppable and viral freight train determined to take everyone down, you can imagine what it is like in Hong Kong, except stricter.
Sammi Cheng: Becoming a Housewife
In a social media post on Friday (4 March), the 49-year-old superstar wrote in Chinese, “Besides buying food ingredients for cooking, I am staying at home. There are always things to tidy up.”
She added that she will continue to be a “housewife” for now since the recording of her album has been pushed back because of the outbreak.
And true to her “housewife” mode, Cheng is using her spare time to indulge in television dramas and movies.
On her Instagram story, Cheng would introduce her fans to some movies—anything is watchable as long as there are subtitles—including a Polish film called My Wonderful Life (2021).
According to the given synopsis, it features a middle-aged Joanna who is trying to manage all her various roles in a three-generation family, while maintaining her job as a teacher.
Just from the summary alone, it sounds like a lot of internal turmoil and drama, plus adolescent shenanigans to rile up one’s nerves.
For the 49-year-old singer-actress, it was her first time watching a Polish film, and she thought the narrative was great with an unexpected ending.
Besides that, she introduced another Chinese documentary called My Lover, which is also available on Netflix.
She writes, “The story of this old married couple is incredibly touching and very emotional. Actually… What is real love? After watching this old married couple’s story, maybe…. [you] will understand.”
Perhaps Sammi Cheng should persuade her agent to get her a sponsorship contract to promote Netflix? It’d be nice to make some cash while enjoying the good shows.

Listen to Mi Blu-Ray on Sale Now
Of course, since Instagram is a social media platform and she is a celebrity, there is some self-promotion involved too:
She tells her followers that her Listen to Mi Birthday Gig (Blu-ray) is now available for sale. It was recorded last August, and it features a few new songs.
