Yes, we’re still reeling from the announcement of iPhone X and more importantly, its price tag. Here in Singapore, the most hi-tech model from Apple is going to burn a VERY DEEP hole in your pocket – think S$1648 to S$1888.
And yes again, that was a mini heart attack you just experienced.
The thing is, though, Samsung is not quite ready to throw in the towel just yet. Well, to be completely honest, they have a baby baking in the oven that’s not been released yet.
And here’s the kicker – news leaked about it, and the name of the phone more than anything else.
Galaxy X.
Yes, you can do a double take right about now. Read on for more juicy details!
What Actually Happened
Apple released two types of phone models at one go – iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Its reasoning was that the sales of both phone kinds would balance each other out, creating a possible fool-proof winning solution for the company.
This caused Samsung to go in a lurch lor. How to upsell their phones now?
In case you didn’t know, Galaxy X was aiming to be the first ever foldable smartphone. It took so many years and many more patent applications before it finally pulled through.
On top of that, Samsung has stressed out two points about its X model – it is not only a brand new device of its kind, but it is also going to be marketed with a limited availability in its home front of South Korea.
Man, that kinda sucks. I feel you, Samsung lovers.
At the same time, it also makes you think leh – apart from the phone being able to be folded, got any other special features or not?
If you look at the iPhone, it has got a uniform set of features and even size as it evolves. This is Apple’s exclusivity as a smartphone developer, and also possible flaw. You compare it to Samsung, and you see that the Korean brand has got so many more range of products to offer its customers. On the same token, all models don’t share the same set of features lor.
Here’s the best example for you. Remember the S pen? That’s a unique feature that’s tagged to Samsung Note phone/tablets.
Back to the Samsung X.
It is expected to release in the first weeks of January next year, and will be showcased as an experimental device. This is also probably the same reason why it’s going to be only released to the South Korean market lar.
In a way, does give Samsung time to see if the public responds well to the concept of a folding smartphone, and whether it would be a hit with the rest of the world. Guinea pig concept, but it helps deliver results without costing much for the company.
Hmm… Who do you think made the better marketing move now? Apple or Samsung?
