Security Guard Has MC for Over 3 Months After BMW Driver Reportedly Abused Him at a Mall

To all singles out there, if you need another reason to believe why driving a BMW is considered a red flag – here’s one for you.

The 56-year-old security officer allegedly suffered fractures to his palm and injuries on his back when he attempted to stop a rogue, BMW driver outside United Square mall.

The incident occurred last year, 6 November, where the security officer alleged that the driver almost knocked him over before getting out of his vehicle to push the security officer until he fell.

What Sparked the BMW Driver’s ‘Wrath’

Prior to this rage incident, the security officer had worked as a senior security officer at United Square mall for five years.

His duties included traffic control around the mall’s taxi stand where he had the misfortune of running into the BMW driver. The BMW driver allegedly made an illegal cut across traffic lanes against the security officer’s instructions, which led to the officer almost being knocked over.

It was then that the BMW driver decided to alight from the vehicle and approached the officer. The driver began to push the officer which caused the officer to fall.

The driver later fled in his car after the officer mentioned that he was going to report the rage incident to the police.

Reason Behind Delayed Report and Support From the Public

The incident only came to light this year as the injured security officer only approached the Union of Security Employees (USE) for help only a few weeks ago to ensure that actions would be taken against the BMW driver.

The public has since voiced their support for the injured security officer when the Union of Security Employees posted about this incident on their Facebook page on Wednesday, 16 February.

Comments include well-wishes for the security officer to have a speedy recovery and that security personnel do not exist “for bullies to abuse”. The USE has also dispensed “quick relief funds” to the security officer involved and is currently assisting him as police investigation for this incident remains ongoing.

This is not the first incident of abuse concerning security officers and employees in Singapore.

Just last month, a 61-year-old driver was arrested after he injured the security officer working at Red Swastika School when he attempted to force his way into the school compound with his Bentley vehicle.

In a survey conducted last year with the Singapore University of Social Sciences, 39% of security officers report facing abuse at work, with the general public being the largest group of abusers.

So tolong lah, if you happen to see any officers dealing with a problematic person – take the time to intervene within your abilities and stand up for them.
