After stopping work for the weekend, a remodelling contractor opened the door yesterday morning (27 Sep) to unexpectedly find a male corpse in the shop.
The corpse was discovered at the shophouse below The Wharf Residence on Tong Watt Road.
According to a witness’ account, they saw five police cars and an ambulance arriving at the condominium in the morning, with a large number of officers entering the three-storey shophouse to investigate.
When Shin Min Daily News reporters arrived at the scene at 4pm, police officers were still entering and leaving the unit.
The shophouse appeared to be under renovations, and no one has officially occupied it yet.
A neighbour who wishes to remain anonymous revealed that the police went from door-to-door to make inquiries, like if they noticed any suspicious persons or activity at the back of the shop, or if there were any missing items from their home.
It is understood that when the remodelling contractor returned to the unit to resume their work on Monday, they discovered a man of Chinese descent lying down in the backyard of the shophouse.
The man reportedly sustained injuries that seemed consistent with injuries that one would suffer from after falling from a great height.
In response to media enquiries, the police confirmed that they received a report for an unnatural death around 9:51am.
The spokesperson said that a 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Based on preliminary investigations, homicide has been ruled out.
