Ever regret not paying attention during lectures or burning the midnight oil for your finals?
Well, I did.
There were times when I would wish that I had a set of solid notes that would help me through school. The thought of paying attention in class the next time would also pop up to boot.
Now, in this digital day and age, where everything is soaked in technology, it was just a matter of time, someone came up with this idea.
I am still on the fence about it, but I will let you decide .
Kaplan lecturer, Leo Kee Chye (had previously ran a model General Paper essay but wasn’t making much moolah from it ) and his former student, Jerome Quek (who had experience with digital sales) created an online space where straight-A students can upload their notes for cash—Vohga.
So all you valedictorians, don’t throw away your notes just because you’re done with it. You can actually make some cha-ching out of it.
The students will still retain ownership of the notes, and if the buyers want it, they would simply download it, cutting down time-consuming meet-ups and whatnot.
According to Today, since its launch in April, it has 400 sellers and at least one transaction is made every two to three days. 10% of each purchase goes to Leo and Jerome – so their business is like an agent between buyers and sellers.
It does seem like a haven for slackers and the academically challenged, but how helpful can someone’s notes be?
If the notes are done in an organic way, it will be done in a way that is suited to them (mine will be filled with illegible words and weird abbreviations that would only make sense to me).
FYI, you are not allowed to hire someone to do your essay; however, you’re allowed to seek peer guidance for a small fee.
From the seller’s perspective, it does look like a good outlet to earn passive income. From the buyer’s perspective, I wouldn’t know how helpful the notes will be.
There is one way to look at it though: now you will be motivated to actually pay attention in class and make proper notes, cause you might actually be able to monetize it
But first, let’s work on the handwriting.
