Resident Filmed Neighbour Pouring Down Urine from Toa Payoh HDB Flat

The next time you feel like complaining about your neighbour for singing KTV too loudly, remember: At least your neighbour doesn’t pour urine from their unit’s window.

Yup, some people do this in Singapore. Talk about living in a civilised society.

While some people in Singapore might have to put up with unruly behaviour, such as occasionally shouting and loud KTV singing from their neighbours, it’s safe to say that most of us would rather deal with those issues than have to smell their neighbour’s urine every day.

Recently, a person living in a third-storey unit at Block 104 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh was exposed by neighbours of his block after pouring urine down the block for months since last year.

Here’s what has been happening.

Urine Pouring Started Last October

When contacting Shin Min Daily News, a 45-year-old taxi driver living in that block mentioned that he started noticing a urine stench at his block’s void deck in October 2022.

The resident, who was responsible for tipping Shin Min off, added that other neighbours also asked him if he smelled the urine as the corridor at the back of the block would often reek of urine.

Afterwards, some residents, including him, noticed that a fellow resident living on the third storey would pour some sort of liquid out of their unit’s window in the early hours of the morning.

While they thought that the stench would be reduced during the Chinese New Year period, it continued to be prevalent throughout all 15 days of Chinese New Year (CNY) this year.

Which prompted the neighbours to band together and take matters into their own hands.

Residents Discussed and Agreed to Wake Up Earlier to Film Urine-Pouring Neighbour

After the CNY period, the residents of the block discussed and agreed to wake up earlier in the morning to catch the neighbour red-handed and film them pouring urine out of their window.

Yup, that’s how desperate they were.

The taxi driver added that one of his neighbours was able to get the disgusting act filmed on camera on Tuesday (7 February).

The neighbour also uploaded the footage onto Facebook afterwards.

Facebook user Valiant Khong uploaded the video to the COMPLAINT SINGAPORE Facebook group on the same day, saying that a neighbour had finally managed to film the culprit.

In the video, the entire area was completely pitch-black apart from the unit, which had its lights on and windows open.

After a few seconds, a hand reached out of the third-storey unit to pour the liquid out of what seemed like a plastic bottle.

You can even hear the splash of liquid when it hits the ground.

The video ended soon after.

According to Khong’s post, the neighbour usually pours urine from their window from around 5 am to 6 am every day, and multiple complaints have been made to the National Environment Agency (NEA).

However, Khong claimed that the NEA failed to take any action regarding this behaviour apart from issuing warnings to the resident.

In the comments section of the post, many netizens expressed their disgust. At the same time, some suggested that those living in the same block as the irresponsible resident should escalate this matter by reporting it to the Town Council in the area or the police.

Several netizens also called the resident out for their irresponsible and gross behaviour.

Residents End Up Being Waken Up by Stench of Urine Every Morning

When reporters from Shin Min visited the area, an affected resident named Susan shared that the window in her room faces the corridor at the back of the block, meaning that she is awoken by the stench of urine every morning.

I don’t know about you, but suddenly the blaring alarm that comes from my phone every morning seems like a much better alarm alternative.

She added that multiple complaints have been made to the relevant authorities in the past.

However, it seems like the resident is unfazed by the warnings given as they have continued to pour urine out of their window.

Resident(s) in Same Unit Engage in High-Rise Littering Too

And that’s not all.

According to the taxi driver who tipped Shin Min off, the resident(s) living in the same unit also engage in high-rise littering.

He claimed to have seen someone from the unit throw down items such as an entire bag of bread, curry rice and huat kueh before, which attracted pigeons to the block.

The taxi driver expressed his disapproval of the resident’s actions and pointed out that the act of throwing food items down the block is extremely unhygienic.

Additionally, the consequences would be dire if the items ended up hitting someone at the void deck, especially if they hit a child.

On Facebook, Khong also claimed that the resident throws cigarette butts, sanitary pads, tissue paper and food waste out of the window regularly.
