It would be an understatement to say Muskโ€™s helm of Twitter has caused trouble.

From fired employees to fuming clients, the once-richest man in the world has had a chaotic few months.

Now, it might just end.

Users Vote Head of Twitter Elon Out

On Sunday (18 December), Musk posted a poll on Twitter asking users if he should step down as the head of the company.

โ€œShould I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,โ€ he wrote.

When the poll closed on Monday, 57.5% of the 17.5 million voters favoured his resignation. Interestingly, the online-active Musk did not immediately respond after the results were released.

Instead, he broke the silence by replying: โ€œInterestingโ€ to claims that the results may have been rigged by fake accounts. Adding on, he said Twitter will make a change that only Twitter Blue subscribers can vote in policy-related polls.

For those who donโ€™t know, Twitter Blue is a subscription service that allows users to pay US$8 (~S$11) for a blue tick to appear next to their username.

He then tweeted again: โ€œAs the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.โ€

With this, weโ€™re still unsure as to whether the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX will be exiting his newest company.

No Replacement

Even if he were to step out the door, thereโ€™s currently nobody to take his seat.

As heโ€™s announced before, โ€œno one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor.โ€

Why?

Like the RI students two years back, Twitter has been flushing money down the drain. With almost US$13 billion (S$17.6 billion) of debt, itโ€™s no wonder that nobody wants to commandeer this sinking ship.

Even Musk himself declared that โ€œit has been in the fast lane to bankruptcy since Mayโ€.

The vote tells us that we might see the end of Musk. But what if we see the end of Twitter as well?
