First Step for VTL Between Taiwan & S’pore Starts As Both Regions Now Accept Each Other’s COVID-19 Test Results & Vaccine Certs

For those of you who’ve been dreaming of Taiwan’s street food and bubble tea, you’re in luck.

Singapore and Taiwan now accept each others’ digital COVID-19 test and vaccination certificates, which might signal a VTL opening soon.

First Step Toward Singapore-Taiwan VTL?

The Singapore Trade Office in Taipei announced on 28 January that both countries’ authorities now recognise and accept each others’ digital COVID-19 test and vaccination certificates.

This is a positive development in the easing of border restrictions, for allowing travel between Singapore and Taiwan.

Focus Taiwan reported that their Ministry of Foreign Affairs had praised this development to signify mutual trust, and is further proof of their success in managing the COVID-19 situation.

FYI, Focus Taiwan is the English news site of Taiwan’s government-controlled news agency.

What Does This Development Mean?

Individuals who hold a Taiwan-issued COVID-19 vaccination certificate will be allowed to enter Singapore, now that authorities’ accept each other’s certifications.

They’ll also be able to move freely in Singapore, provided that they’ve been vaccinated with vaccines approved by the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) emergency use list.

All vaccine brands currently used by Taiwan, except the Taiwan-produced Medigen, are all included in the WHO’s emergency use listing. You can definitely expect more Taiwanese travellers coming our way.

Taiwan is also classified as one of the places with the lowest risk of COVID-19 transmissions, under Category 1.

As of now, Singaporeans are not allowed to enter or transit in Taiwan with the exception of residents, emergency or humanitarian reasons. Travellers will have to apply for a special entry permit at the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore before their trip to Taiwan.

However, with the mutual acceptance of certificates, this could change soon. Fingers crossed and we might be able to enter Taiwan via a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) in the near future.

For now, you can fly to these other countries via VTL: Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, The Maldives, The Netherlands, Spain, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, UK and USA.
